Zack Fuentes was crowned the champion of the first of two Mid-States Poker Tour main events taking place at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada this week. Fuentes took home the top prize worth $117,060 along with his first MSPT title very early on Friday, Feb. 10. His total career earnings now stand at $191,099.

The $1,110 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament had a prize pool worth more than $700,000 thanks to two starting flights that attracted a total of 665 entries. The top 74 players all cashed for at least $1,832 in prize money, and that’s exactly how many players returned for the second and final day of the tournament.

The field played down to the final table of nine players around 7 pm. Two of the main hurdles that Fuentes had to clear fell about the mid-point of the final table when Richard Alsup fell in seventh place, and Ankush Mandavia was eliminated in fourth place.

The heads-up final began around midnight, and it took less than an hour of play to decide a champion from there. On the final hand, Josh Remitio was all in preflop with K-6 in the hole, but he ran right into the pocket aces held by Fuentes. The board changed nothing, and Remitio was awarded $86,615 for his deep run in the tournament. The former World Series of Poker final tablist’s career earnings now stand at $2,327,407.

“I feel like I’m in a dream, it’s kind of like wow that really happened,” said Fuentes to the MSPT reporters after his win. He continued, “My game isn’t player dependent, as long as I am playing the way that I know I can play, then I’ll make the best decisions I can, and hope everything works out.”

A few other notables that cashed in the event included Michael Dyer (15th), Michael Rossitto (18th), Jim Collopy (23rd), Jason Fitzpatrick (24th), Anthony Spinella (31st), Darren Rabinowitz (32nd), Kathy Liebert (53rd), Shannon Shorr (58th), Chip Jett (63rd), Bryan Piccioli (65th), Daniel Sepiol (66th), and DJ Buckley (73rd).
