Danny Tang has won his first Triton Poker title, emerging victorious from a field of 57 entries in the 2023 Triton Super High Roller Series Vietnam $25,000 short deck event with the trophy and the top prize of $427,000.

The bracelet winner from Hong Kong now has nearly $13.7 million in recorded tournament earnings, with more than $4.9 million of that being won in Triton events.

Tang dedicated this victory to the late Ivan Leow, who tragically passed away while attending the Triton festival in Cyprus last year.

“I think about him every day,” Tang told Triton reporters. “Every single day…This is definitely dedicated to him.”

This was Tang’s first live tournament cash of 2023. He earned 420 Card Player Player of the Year points as the victor, enough to put him within reach of the top 400 in the 2023 POY race sponsored by Global Poker.

Tang overcame a stacked final table in this event, with names like World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour champion Michael Watson (6th), Super High Roller Bowl V champion Isaac Haxton (5th), Aussie Millions $100,000 high roller champion Richard Yong (3rd), and two-time POY winner Stephen Chidwick (2nd) among those who made the money in this event.

This was Haxton’s sixth final-table finish of the year, with 2,523 points and $3,991,140 in POY earnings accrued. Haxton has won three titles already in 2023, including a pair of seven-figure paydays for taking down $100,000 buy-in events at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. As a result of his hot start to the year, he now sits in sixth place in the overall POY standings.

Chidwick also climbed up the POY leaderboard thanks to his success in this event. The $310,000 and 350 points he earned as the runner-up were enough to move him into 17th place in the rankings, with $2,408,132 in to-date POY earnings and 2,066 points.

Here is a look at the payouts and POY points awarded at the final table:

Place Player Earnings POY Points
1 Danny Tang $427,000 420
2 Stephen Chidwick $310,000 350
3 Richard Yong $199,300 280
4 Kiat Lee $151,000 210
5 Isaac Haxton $117,000 175
6 Michael Watson $91,200 140
7 Phil Chiu $72,500 105
