Just 160 players remain from the record turnout of 10,112 entries made in the 2024 World Series of Poker $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event following the completion of day 5. In just six days, one of them will hoist the championship bracelet and head to the payout desk to collect $10,000,000 in prize money.

The chip leader heading into day 6 is bracelet winner and 2022 WPT Prime Championship winner Stephen Song with 12,310,000. Song (pictured above) won a sizable pot late in the day with pocket aces against the pocket jacks of Aneris Adomkevicius, who called all-in on the river to finish 165th.

Song has $6,537,714 in prior tournament earnings, with nearly $1.6 million earned in WSOP events. The 2019 $1,000 no-limit hold’em bracelet event winner’s deepest prior run in the main event saw him place 83rd out of a field of 6,650 entries back in 2021.

The only other player to end the night above the 10-million-chip mark was Carlos Caldas with 12,110,000. Other top stacks include Diogo Coelho (9,950,000), Yegor Moroz (9,470,000), and Manuel Machado (8,830,000).

Among the 304 players to hit the rail by the end of the day were the likes of Maria Ho (445th), five-time bracelet winner Adam Friedman (416th), 11-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey (340th), two-time WPT champion and Card Player columnist Jonathan Little (316th), bracelet winner Nacho Barbero (301st), three-time bracelet winner Chris Vitch (268th), three-time bracelet winner David Prociak (225th), recent Independence Day Celebration bracelet event winner Francis Anderson (226th), two-time bracelet winner Boris Kolev (218th), 2022 Wynn Millions champion Tony Sinishtaj (204th), three-time bracelet winner David ‘Bakes’ Baker (184th), and two-time bracelet winner Jesse Lonis (176th).

Four-time bracelet winner Adrian Mateos entered the day in second chip position, but a pair of tough hands in rapid succession saw him plummet down the leaderboard early on day 5. He
held KSpade SuitKHeart Suit on a QDiamond Suit4Diamond Suit2Club Suit board in a four-bet pot. His opponent, two-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Will Berry, led out for 425,000 into the pot of 1,360,000 with ASpade SuitAClub Suit. Mateos called and the 10Spade Suit rolled off the deck on the turn. Bet bet 1,300,000 into the pot of 2,210,000 and Mateos folded, preserving 3,400,000.

Not long after that, Mateos opened AHeart SuitAClub Suit for a 60,000 min-raise from the lojack and was called by Lingkun Lu in the small blind with 5Heart Suit4Heart Suit. Adrian Garcia then three-bet to 325,000 from the big blind with ASpade SuitKSpade Suit. Mateos four-bet to 750,000 and Lu got out of the way. Garcia five-bet shoved for 2,925,000 and Mateos snap-called. The board ran out 10Spade Suit9Heart Suit8Diamond Suit9Spade Suit3Spade Suit and Garcia made a backdoor flush to leave Mateos short. He ultimately finished in 317th place, earning $45,000. Check out a clip of that brutal second hand from PokerGO’s exclusive broadcast coverage of the main event below:
