Calvin Anderson took down the 2024 World Series of Poker $10,000 eight-game championship, besting a tough field of 189 entries to earn his fifth career gold bracelet and the top prize of $413,446.
Anderson became just the 41st player in WSOP history to have won five or more bracelets. The victory was apparently particularly special for Anderson, given the format which includes eight of the most popular variants of poker.
“You’re playing a bunch of different games against all of the top players, I played against tons of really, really good players along the way. I ran good but I think I played really well too, there’s a lot of spots where I’m super happy with the way that I played. Feels good to do all of the things right,” Anderson told WSOP reporters.
This was the third-largest score of Anderson’s career. It increased his lifetime earnings to nearly $7.2 million.
In addition to the hardware and the money, Anderson was also awarded plenty of rankings points for this win. The 840 Card Player Player of the Year points he secured were enough to see him climb to 69th place in the 2024 standings, which are presented by Global Poker. This was his fourth POY-qualified score of the year, and first title. He also earned 413 PokerGO Tour points. With 1,085 earned so far, he now sits in 11th place on that high-stakes-centric leaderboard.
This tournament played out over the course of three days on the outskirts of the 2024 WSOP main event. The 189-entry turnout built a prize pool of $1,757,700 that was paid out among the top 29 finishers. Among those that ran deep were two-time bracelet winner Chris Brewer (16th) and Maxx Coleman (13th), bracelet winner Danny Wong (12th), five-time bracelet winners Adam Friedman (11th) and Yuri Dzivielevski (10th), bracelet winner Maksim Pisarenko (9th), bracelet winner and three-time World Poker Tour champion Gus Hansen (8th), and bracelet winner Andres Korn (7th).
The final table included the likes of two-time bracelet winner Tom Koral (6th – $66,353), poker triple crown winner Mike Watson (4th – $126,780), and bracelet winner Ali Eslami (3rd – $182,938).
Japan’s Dai Ishibashi earned a career-best payday of $271,351 as the runner-up.
