The 2024 World Series of Poker $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. even fittingly came down to a stacked final table, with seven of the last eight contenders already having at least one bracelet victory, including several multiple bracelet winners like 11-time WSOP champion Phil Ivey, seven-time champion Scott Seiver, and five-time champion Adam Friedman. In the end it was China’s Xixiang Luo that emerged victorious with the hardware and the top prize of $725,796.
This was Luo’s second career bracelet win, having taken down the inaugural $1,500 mixed no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha double board bomb pot event earlier this summer for $270,820.
Luo now has more than $3.7 million in career tournament earnings, with almost $1.5 million of that coming from his 33 cashes at the series that have yielded four final-table finishes and two victories.
This high-stakes mixed game event drew 120 entries to build a prize pool of $2,820,000. The top 18 finishers made the money, with huge names like 17-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth (18th), three-time bracelet winner Paul Volpe (15th), six-time bracelet winner Jason Mercier (11th), and bracelet winner Yueqi Zhu (9th) running deep.
Two-time bracelet winner Michael Moncek knocked out Friedman in eighth place ($80,585) during a round of stud. He then made a 9-7 low in razz to bust bracelet winner David Benyamine, who was pipped with a 9-8.
Scott Seiver, who has won three bracelet already this summer and is leading the WSOP Player of the Year race, added to his impressive summer with a sixth-place showing in this event for $131,719. He now has more than $27 million in lifetime earnings and seven total bracelets to his name.
Seiver’s run ended during a round of stud eight-or-better, with two-time bracelet winner Ryan Miller making trip fours to best Seiver’s pair of jacks.
Miller soon joined Seiver on the rail with his K-10 running into the A-6 of Moncek in limit hold’em. Moncek flopped trip sixes and held from there to send Miller packing in fifth place ($175,423).
Poker Hall of Famer Phil Ivey got all-in during a round of stud with three to a straight and two hearts in his hand. He picked up a full-fledged flush draw on fifth street, but wound up with just a pair of fives by seventh. Moncek had made a pair of eights on sixth street, which was good enough to eliminate Ivey in fourth place $239,850.
Moncek got the last of his chips in playing a later round of stud with a pair of aces leading a pair of jacks for Luo. Moncek didn’t improve on seventh street, but Luo made jacks and tens to to win the pot and set up a heads-up match with Albert Daher. Moncek earned $336,442 as the third-place finisher.
Luo started with a small lead, but won a big pot off the bat with trip deuces in stud. Daher fought back from the brink several times, but ultimately found himself all-in with Q2 facing the K7 of Luo during a round of limit hold’em. The board ran out 865103 and king high was enough to win Luo the pot and the title. Daher was awarded $483,866 as the runner-up.
