The 2024 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville series got underway late last week, with the first event on the agenda being the $100,000 guaranteed $400 buy-in no-limit hold’em event.
A total of 858 entries were made across the six starting flights, smashing the guarantee to build a final prize pool of $278,850. In the end, the largest share of that money was awarded to Jacksonville, FL local Ben Scrogins. He secured $59,166 as the champion, the third-largest score of his tournament career.
Scrogins is no stranger to success at bestbet Jacksonville. In fact, this was his third title earned at the venue. His top payday came when he took down the 2021 CPPT bestbet Jacksonville $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event, topping a field of 339 to earn $158,915. Scrogins now has more than $557,000 in recorded tournament earnings to his name.
This was Scrogins’ first Card Player Player of the Year qualified score of 2024. He earned 365 points as the champion.
The top 83 finishers made the money in this event, with five-figure payouts for the final five. Scrogins made his way down to short-handed play with a big stack. His pocket tens then held against the A-8 suited of Jared Gable (3rd – $22,496) to see him enter heads-up play with nearly a 2:1 lead over Kevin Costello.
Scrogins was able to stretch his advantage even further ahead of the final hand of the tournament. Costello three-bet shoved for 2,875,000 (11.5 big blinds) with 99 from the big blind after Scrogins had opened the button to 600,000 with K5. Scrogins called and the board came down K42Q2 to bring the event to close. Costello earned $36,473 as the runner-up.
