Gamblers looking for action outside traditional sports like football, basketball, baseball, and hockey now have another unlikely option: disc golf.
The Pro Disc Golf Tour announced last week that it is now a betting option in several states. In 2024, the tour partnered with a betting integrity firm and Alt Sports Data to provide odds for sportsbooks.
The DGPT also added a gambling policy in October, which barred employees, touring pros, coaches, and event staff from betting on the sport, sharing inside information, or unethical play. Penalties include fines, suspension, and lifetime bans.
Tour management saw wagering as a way to engage more fans and grow the game.
“We know that for many sports fans, participating in daily fantasy or wagering is part of how they connect with the competition,” DGPT CEO Jeff Spring said. “We’re excited to see sportsbooks and other gaming platforms open these opportunities to disc golf fans in a way that is aligned with our values of transparency and accountability for all involved.
“By ensuring these offerings are hosted in a secure and regulated environment, the DGPT is focusing on integrity, player education, and compliance. We’re excited about new ways for fans to engage in the sport, expanding the reach of disc golf, and ensuring that players and events are supported by clear policies and strong safeguards.”
Where To Bet & Week 1 Results
The new deals allow for traditional sports betting and daily fantasy sports with the league. DraftKings is taking bets on the league, and Underdog Fantasy offers DFS options. For the time being, betting is limited to Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Oregon, and Nevada (in-casino only). Betting is also available in Canada and Mexico.
Wagering began over the weekend in Nashville with the Music City Open. Finland’s Niklas Anttila shot a course record round (-13) to win by three strokes. Underdog listed a finish selection of over or under 10.5 places, so he outperformed that. His odds on DraftKings were +1500, offering a nice payout for bettors.
Adding disc golf to the betting menu shows that non-traditional sports can play a role in the continued growth of sports betting. Rugby, lacrosse, handball, Gaelic football, Aussie rules football, handball and billiards are online sports betting options in certain markets.
A recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver noted that bettors in Oregon wagered $57 million on table tennis in 2024, making it the fourth most wagered-on sport in the state.
