The 2008 Legends of Poker tournament series kicked off earlier this week at the Bicycle Casino. There are preliminary events running everyday until the $10,000 buy-in World Poker Tour main event starts on Aug. 23.

Most prelims are no-limit hold’em, but a few variations are thrown in including Omaha eight-or-better, seven-card stud eight-or-better, and limit hold’em. This weekend, players can take part in the first preliminary event of only two that feature a guaranteed prize pool. The $335 Dan Harrington and David Phambuy-in no-limit hold’em event that runs tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. promises to award at least $150,000 to its players.

After 23 preliminary events and a $1,070 buy-in Mariana/Buss tournament, the WPT main event will begin. Last year, it was Dan Harrington who won the event and the $1.6 million that went along with it. He defeated 385 players and 2007 Card Player Player of the Year David Pham heads up.
