Jimmy Button, a Supercross professional, injured his back in an accident and is now finding a way to help others with the same ailments through poker.
The Fourth-Annual Road 2 Recovery Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament has been announced, and it will take place on Thursday, Oct. 9 at the MGM in Las Vegas. Button hosted a similar charity tournament on Full Tilt last Sunday, but this one will cater to the live-poker masses.
The event will boast the attendance of a number of other Supercross celebrities, like host Chad Reed, Jason Thomas, and Grant Langston, as well as poker pros Andy Bloch, Jennifer Harman, Joe Sebok, and 2008 World Series of Poker final table chip leader Dennis Phillips. The tournament is open to the public, and the recommended donation to compete is $300. Rebuys and add-ons will be available throughout the first hour for $100.
The benefiting charity is Injured Riders Fund for Road 2 Recovery, which is an especially close cause to Button’s heart.
“The past couple of years have been especially difficult for industry riders,” said Button in a press release. “Since my own recovery, I’ve dedicated my life to helping professional AMA licensed Motocross and Supercross members sustaining career-ending injuries with financial, motivational, emotional, and spiritual support.”
Players can preregister for the tournament online and find more information on the tournament at the road2recovery website. The event is sponsored in part by Card Player.
