WSOP -- Jeff Carris Wins Event No. 22Carris Takes Home First Bracelet and $313,673 |
|
It only took Jeff Carris two cashes at the World Series of Poker to capture a bracelet.
Carris went undefeated through his three tables to take down Event No. 22 ($1,500 no-limit hold’em shootout).
Carris had almost everything go his way at the final table, entering heads-up play with a 3-1 chip lead against successful online player Jason Somerville. The cheering section for Carris could be heard from all over the Amazon room, helping propel him to a quick heads up match of roughly 20 minutes. Had Carris taken just a half an hour longer to beat his opponent, his victory would have come a year to the day after what was his largest tournament score ($54,405 at a June 13, 2008 Bellagio event).
After besting a field of 1,000 entrants one table at a time, Carris took home the coveted gold bracelet and a first place prize of $313,673.
Here are the final results:
1. Jeff Carris – $313,673

Here is a look at the elimination hands as featured in CardPlayer.com’s live updates
Mike Shannon Eliminated In 10th Place ($13,609)
Mike Shannon raised all-in for his last 117,000 preflop. Action folded around to Jeff Carris in the small blind who made the call. Carris exposed KK while Shannon tabled KQ. The board ran out J876J, sending Shannon home first at the final table.
Josh Tieman Eliminated In 9th Place ($17,045)
Josh Tieman raised to 31,000 from early position and action folded around to Jason Somerville in the cutoff who repopped it to 256,000. Tieman made the call, putting himself all-in and at risk. Tieman exposed the AK while Somerville flipped over 1010. Tieman could not win the race as the board came 86478.
Michael McNeil Eliminated In 8th Place ($21,981)
Joseph Cutler raised to 32,000 preflop and Michael McNeil made the call from the button. Andrew Margolis also called and the flop came Q64. The action was checked to McNeil who moved all in and Margolis made the call, while Cutler mucked. Mcneil tabled Q10 while Margolis exposed the 66. Margolis flopped a set of sixes and McNeil was in deep trouble. The turn was the 7, and McNeil was drawing dead. The river brought the A, eliminating him in 8th place.
Eugene Katchalov Eliminated In 7th Place ($29,195)
Katchalov moved all-in for his final 57,000 preflop and Jeff Carris made the call from the big blind. Katchalov turned over the QQ and Carris exposed K9. The flop came J102 and Katchalov was well ahead with his pair of ladies. However, the flop gave Carris a gutshot straight draw to go along with his over card. The 7 hit the turn and Katchalov needed to dodge just one more card in order to get back into contention. However, the dealer pealed off the Q, giving Katchalov a set, but Carris his straight.
Brandon Wong Eliminated In 6th Place ($39,968)
Brandon Wong moved all-in preflop and Andrew Margolis went into the tank. He eventually made the call with the AJ, but was well behind the AQ of Wong. The flop was a disaster for Wong as the door card was the J, also bringing the 76. The 3 hit the turn and the 7 fell on the river, eliminating Wong in heartbreaking fashion.
Joseph Cutler Eliminated In 5th Place ($56,440)
Cutler moved all-in preflop and was called by Andrew Margolis. Cutler exposed the KQ, but was dominated by the AQ of Margolis. The flop was all bricks for Cutler, however the turn gave him a heart flush draw. The excitement was short lived as Cutler failed to improve and was eliminated.
Christopher Moore Eliminated In 4th Place ($82,322)
Chris Moore moved all-in under the gun with the KJ and was called by the A9 of Jeff Carris. The flop was ugly for Moore as it came AK7. The turn brought the J, giving Carris the flush, but leaving Moore with four outs to make a full house. There was no miracle as the 4 hit the river, eliminating Moore.
Andrew Margolis Eliminated in 3rd Place ($124,158)
Jeff Carris raised on the button and Andrew Margolis moved all-in from the small blind. Carris called quickly and tabled the AQ. Margolis was behind but had two live cards with the K8. The board was no help for him as it ran out 932A10, eliminating him in third place and giving Carris a 3-1 chip lead going into heads up play.
Jeff Carris Wins Event No.22 ($313,673), Jason Somerville Eliminated In 2nd Place ($194,004)
Jason Somerville was short stacked when he moved all-in from the small blind with Q6 and was called quickly by the K5 of Jeff Carris. The board ran out A783J, making king-high the best hand and giving Carris the bracelet and $313,673.
