Harrah's New Orleans, which has been closed since Hurricane Katrina tore though the city, is scheduled to reopen Feb. 17, 2006.

The casino has been closed since Aug. 29, shortly before Katrina made landfall, leaving about 2,400 employees out of work. About 1,200 employees will return to work in February, and Harrah's will slowly bring the number back to prestorm figures.

A World Series of Poker circuit event is scheduled to take place there in May, 2006.

Work is also continuing on the 450-room hotel that was being built in New Orleans when Katrina hit. The $150 million project will be finished in September, 2006.

Harrah's is still considering what to do with its two casinos that were destroyed in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Katrina beached two barges and destroyed a $50 million barge that housed restaurants.

Harrah's may combine its two Lake Charles casinos into one large complex to compete with the newer L'Auberge du Lac casino, which opened last May. Parts of that casino, which is owned by Pinnacle Entertainment, reopened soon after the storm hit.

Harrah's officials will soon decide what to do with their properties on Lake Charles and make an announcement in the middle of February.
