In November, CardPlayer.com reported that Jeremy Warshauer of Harvard won the very first Texas hold'em tournament between Yale and Harvard that was held at Yale. His victory not only gave the inaugural championship to Harvard, but also won him into a $1,000 buy-in to a supersatellite at TruePoker.com for the World Series of Poker.
Warshauer played in the satellite this weekend and ended up taking second place, which was good for a WSOP prize package.
But since Warshauer is only 19 years old, he won't be able to play in the World Series of Poker this year. Instead, he'll take the $10,000 and use it for college expenses and savings.
Warshauer won the first poker tournament to take place between the Ivy League rivals. It was organized by a Yale student who wanted to build a poker event around the football rivalry weekend between the two schools.
The tournament was a freeroll and all the prizes were donated by Yale alumnus Dave Gzesh, who also owns TruePoker.com. All the players who just showed up received a free $20 to play at TruePoker.com. Players who made the final table received $50 to play at the site.
