Barry Shulman on The ScoopBarry Shulman has spent the last two-and-a-half months supporting his son, Jeff Shulman, after he made the final table at the World Series of Poker main event, but last week, Barry made his own final table at the World Series of Poker Europe main event. Barry was fourth in chips among the final nine players — just as Jeff will be this November — and ended up with the WSOPE title and more than $1.2 million for first place. Barry joined Adam Schoenfeld and Diego Cordovez on this week’s episode of The Scoop (sponsored by Full Tilt Poker) on Card Player TV.

“I told him [Jeff Shulman], when I left town, I said, ’I’m going here to make the final table. I think it’s good for us. It’ll be fun,’” Barry Shulman said.

He also goes on to talk about the friendly competition he has going on with Jeff.

“I did communicate with him, and I said, ’I’m ahead of you for the year now.’ On the other hand, if he does well in the main event, it’ll be hard for me to get ahead of him for the year, since I don’t play too many tournaments. And he’s not going out ninth, you’ve heard it here first.”

Barry Shulman also talked about the high quality of the players in the field, and the WSOPE structure catering to better players.

“It would have been very difficult for a random player to make the final table. Not that I’m pumping myself up, but it was a very tough field. It was a deep-stacked tournament with hours and hours of play. Some of the luck we normally have in poker just wasn’t there.”

In this episode, Barry divulges more detail about the event as well as his plans for tournaments in the future.
