Online Poker -- OPOY Weekly RecapSteve Gross Holds Big Lead Heading Into Home Stretch |
|
Last year at this time, Alex “AJKHoosier1” Kamberis held a large lead over eventual second-place finisher, Steve “gboro780” Gross in the Card Player Online Player of the Year race. This year, it’s Gross who has that same lead heading into the final eight weeks of the year.
Gross had a solid Sunday, final-tabling both the Full Tilt $75,000 guarantee and the PokerStars Sunday 500. His problem, however, was that second-place resident Shaun “TedsFishFry” Deeb had made the Sunday 500 final table, as well.
Gross exited in ninth place, leaving Deeb plenty of opportunity to make up some ground, but Deeb fizzled out in sixth place. As it stands now, Gross has a 1,242-point lead over Deeb and the rest of the pack.
Third place still belongs to David “SirSands” Sands, who had a quiet week and failed to pick up any OPOY points.
Only three Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS) events have been played, but Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen jumped into fourth place thanks to a strong finish in event No. 3, a $500 no-limit hold’em shootout tournament, where he finished in third place and banked $36,450.
Rounding out the top five is Chris “Moorman1” Moorman, who added 80 points to his total with a eighth-place finish in one of Sunday’s $100 rebuy tournaments.
The rest of the top 10 is represented by Jonathan “shipitobv” Delong (sixth), Jeremiah “Believer82” Vinsant (seventh), Joseph “hoodini10” Udine (eighth), Greg “Gregior” Howard (ninth), and Daniel “djk123” Kelly (10th).
