European Poker Tour Copenhagen -- Day 3Welshman Rules as 76 Become 24 on Day 3 of EPT Copenhagen |
|
Day 3 of any EPT is one which is filled with a lot of angst. Making it through is something which weighs on all players’ minds. For some it means being able to afford the flight home or even just the next event, for others it’s just a familiar marker one step closer to the finish line. To make it through would mean being one day away from the final table, and a life-changing prize, but it also means that the hours of concentration have not been for nothing. For there is one big event which affects everyone on day 3 – the money bubble.
Seventy-six players hit the floor in Copenhagen for the PokerStars European Poker Tour but only 24 are now preparing for the penultimate day and the serious end of the DKK 14,212,800 (approx. € 1,909,000) prize pool.
Annette Obrestad was one of the early casualties of the day and also one of 20 who would go home with nothing. Denmark’s own Peter Eastgate built upon the solid foundation he created previously and kept his place on the chip leader board by end of play. One of the more well-known players who fell by the hand of the Danish pro was Peter Hedlund.
The most important person to hit the rail during the day however was Craig Hopkins. The demise of his tournament life meant good news for everyone else as the next player out would receive DKK 55,000. Morten Guldhammer opened with a raise to 12,500 and Hopkins shoved all in for 77,000 from the cutoff. Guldhammer took a moment and then made the call showing K 10 while Hopkins revealed Q Q. The board fell K 7 4 3 A and Hopkins made his heart-breaking exit.
Although things looked promising for Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier on other days, day 3 was a different story. After a few rough levels the Team PokerStars Pro player had only 80,000 in chips and after making his move with J 10 was put out by Kristoffer Thorsson and his A 7. The board fell 7 6 3 7 5 and ElkY made his second successive cash on the Tour.
Another player who did well yesterday, but not so much today was Fabian Gentile. All in with A 10, Anton Wigg’s A A put him on the other side of the rail and ended his time on the felt.
The opposite could be said of Roberto Romanello [pictured top right] who took the lead throughout the day. The Welshman went on a glorious run, amassing a tower of chips and a confidence to put fear in anyone who sat nearby.
The top 10 in chips are now:
Roberto Romanello (UK) 1,400,000
Andrew Teng (UK) 1,005,000
Anton Wigg (Sweden) PokerStars qualifier 949,000
Damien Fouquet (France) 934,000
Paul Szyszko (USA) PokerStars qualifier 761,000
Richard Loth (Denmark) 737,000
Peter Eastgate (Denmark) Team PokerStars Pro 726,000
Andrey Vlasenko (Russia) 641,000
Morten Klein (Norway) 621,000
Morten Guldhammer (Denmark) 592,000
