The European Poker Tour is going strong in Copenhagen and the World Poker Tour is gearing up in Los Angeles, but it was at the PokerStars North American Poker Tour where the players chose to spend their Saturday. A grand total of 872 runners showed up at the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for what is serving as the championship event of the Deep Stack Extravaganza.

The field was so large that the day began with an announcement from Venetian officials that all cash games had to be stopped in order to accomodate all of the entrants. With a capacity of 890, the first stop of the NAPT came dangerously close to having to take alternates.

With a $5,000 buy-in, the prize pool reached an astounding $4,017,740. A total of 128 players will make the money and earn a minimum of $7,232. The big winner will take home $827,648 and a lot of screen time when the final table is broadcast on ESPN.

Andy SethAfter eight levels of play, roughly 510 players will return on Sunday to continue their march towards the final table.

Though official chip counts were unavailable, the overnight chip leader is believed to be Andy “BKiCe” Seth (pictured right) with 247,600. He is followed closely behind by Philip “USCphildo” Collins (227,900), Mark Ketteringham (211,000) and Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker (207,300).

Card Player’s own Jeff Shulman survived the day and finished up just below his original starting stack with 28,200.

The Card Player reporting team will be at the event for its duration to bring you all the poker content you need until a champion is crowned.
