The big news at the beginning of day 2 at the PokerStars European Poker Tour San Remo €5,000 no-limit hold’em main event was the announcement of the prize pool. This year’s San Remo stop is the largest EPT event ever hosted in Europe with 1,240 players and thanks to the very strong attendance the total prize pool is €6,014,000. The top 184 players in the event will get paid and the champion will take home the first-place prize of €1,250,000. Forty-four countries are represented in the tournament field, with 412 (33 percent) of the players hailing from the host country of Italy. Here is a look at the full payout structure for the event:

There were 627 players that began day 2 and the majority of them hit the rail. When the final bell tolled 194 remained, just 10 shy of the money bubble. The chip leader at the end of play is Russian player Dmitry Stelmark who holds 670,000. Alexander Roumeliotis is in second with 633,500. Notables rounding out the top 10 were 2009 Card Player Online Player of the Year Steve Gross (560,000), Dermot Blain (550,500) and Team PokerStars pros Matthias De Meulder (482,500) and Bertrand Grospellier (pictured above right), who held 453,500. Other top professionals that finished the night as contenders were recent EPT Snowfest champion Allan Baekke (434,000), Liv Boeree (404,500), Nick Schulman (319,500), and Team PokerStars pros Sebastian Ruthenberg (263,500) and Thomas Bichon (257,000).

Erik Tamm raised from middle position and Team PokerStars pro Luca Pagano made the call preflop. The flop was dealt Q 9 8 and Pagano checked. Tamm bet 12,000 and Pagano made the call before the 3 fell on the turn. Tamm bet 26,000 and Pagano went into the tank before making the call.
The 5 hit the board on the river and Pagano jumped into action. He bet 37,000 and Tamm went into the tank. He made the call and Pagano flipped over A J for a bluff. Tamm held pocket aces and he won the hand. Pagano was left with just 10 big blinds after the loss and he busted soon thereafter.
