European Poker Tour London -- Main Event Day 3

Juanda, Hachem, and Marchese Still in the Hunt for £900,000 Top Prize in London

Chance KornuthThe 128 players that made the money at the 2010 PokerStars European Poker Tour London £5,250 no-limit hold’em main event returned at noon on Saturday and although each of them was guaranteed £7,500 in prize money they all had their eyes set on the serious money that will be up for grabs later in the tournament, mainly the £900,000 first-place prize.

The plan for the day was to play down to the final 24 players, but the only question was just how long that would take and exactly who would make it to the final three tables in the event. Prospects were strong when day 3 began for a strong professional presence in the final stages of the event.

Team PokerStars pros Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, and Greg Raymer, as well as Phil Ivey, John Juanda, reigning Card Player Player of the Year Eric Baldwin and current POY contender Thomas Marchese were all still alive when the day began.

Things didn’t go smoothly for Negreanu; he busted during the first level of the day but quickly relocated to the £20,000 high roller no-limit hold’em event. On his final hand Negreanu held K-3 in the hole and his opponent held his tournament life in the balance with pocket sevens. They held and Negreanu was out. Ivey met his end when his A-J ran into the pocket kings of Jamie Brown. Raymer and Baldwin fell as well, scoring a cash but left wanting more, which they tried to find by also jumping into the £20,000 high roller event.

Former world champion and Team PokerStars pro Hachem did make it through to day 4 as did Juanda. Marchese also advanced, and he could leap frog POY leader Dwyte Pilgrim with a deep run in this event. Team PokerStars pro members Chad Brown and Thomas Bichon have made it through as well. The chip leader is Chance Kornuth, who holds 2,302,000. Other familiar faces in the chase include Per Ummer, Steven Levy, John O’Shea, Kyle Bowker, Allen Bari, and Masaaki Kagawa.

The field will return on Sunday to play down to the final table of eight at noon local time (4 a.m. PST). Be sure to check back in and follow all of the action in Card Player’s live updates, chip counts, photos, and videos from the PokerStars EPT London main event.
