Big Hands:
Dewey Tomko Eliminated
Dewey Tomko looked down at the AJ and open-shoved for 17,000. A player in the small blind called with the 99 and the two players were off to a race. They were not even close to racing anymore as the flop came 963, putting Tomko drawing dead with no runner-runner draws. The board completed with the meaning less J and 8.
Juha Helppi Eliminated
Juha Helppi and the big stack of Eric Cloutier got all the money in preflop with Helppi tabling pocket kings. Cloutier exposed pocket aces and Helppi failed to improve, exiting the tournament right before the day ended. Eric Cloutier is the tournament chip leader with 384,000 to end the day.
Luca Pagano Moves All In
A player in late position bet 2,400 and Andrew Brokos made the call from the button. Action was one Luca Pagano in the small blind. He elected to move all in for 33,800 over the small preflop bet of 2,400. The initial raiser folded and Andrew Brokos went into the tank. He eventually mucked and Pagano took down the pot.
Jim Bechtel Doubles Up
Jim Bechtel moved all in for 10,700 on a flop of 942 and was called by the 97 of an opponent. Bechtel exposed the way in front Q9. The 3 hit the turn, giving Bechtel’s opponent a flush draw. However, none of those outs came as the Q fell on the river. Bechtel is now at 26,000.
Craig Gray Eliminated
Craig Gray checked to his opponent on a board of 653J. His opponent threw out a bet and Gray check-raised all in. His opponent contemplated briefly before making the call with the QJ. Gray was disgusted as he tabled the 77 for a bad misstep. Gray was drawing very thin and the 9 on the river ended his 2009 main event.
Pamela Brunson Wins Big Double Up
Pamela Brunson and her opponent got all the chips into the middle preflop. Brunson exposed kings but was up against the aces of an unknown player. However, Brunson caught up as she flopped a king. The turn and river were safe for her and she doubled to 135,000.

Big Hands and Storylines:
River Saves Rousso From Drowning
Vanessa Rousso had just about 18,000 before the player in seat 6 raised to 500 from late position. Vanessa Rousso called from the cutoff and the small blind repopped to 1,700. Both seat 6 and Rousso called the raise. The flop was 864 and the small blind bet 5,000. Seat 6 got out of the way and Rousso thought for a moment before shoving in for 17,000. The small blind quickly called and both players turned their hands.
Rousso: A10
Small Blind: QQ
Rousso needed an ace or a heart to keep her hopes alive. The turn was the J, no help, but the river was the A giving Rousso top pair and the hand. She doubled up to around 37,000.
Dewey Tomko Busts
On a board showing J8710A, Dewey Tomko was all in against one opponent. Tomko showed Q-9 for a straight to the queen, but his opponent one-upped him as he turned over KQ for a broadway straight and Tomko was sent to the rail.
Flashing a Bluff?
Robert Mizrachi raised preflop from early position to 550. One player called from late position and then the small blind reraised to 2,200. Mizrachi made the call and the late position caller folded. The flop was J47. The button bet 4,500 and Mizrachi called. The turn was the 3 and Mizrachi fired 6,200. He only had 7,000 behind after the bet. His opponent thought for a while before mucking his cards and Mizrachi flashed the K and took the pot. He was up to 31,500 after the hand.
Double the "Dan Druff"
Todd "Dan Druff" Witteles was all in on a board that showed 5328. He was called by one opponent who turned over a couple of Johnnie's, JJ. Witteles showed a couple of ladies with QQ for a dominating grasp on the hand. The river was the A and Witteles doubled up to around 31,000.
Kenny Tran Takes A Small One, Then Gets A Big Boot Out the Door
Action folded around to the player on the button who raised to 600. Kenny Tran made the call from the small blind and the big blind got out of the way. The flop was Q53. Tran checked and the button bet 1,500. Tran check-raised to 3,500 total and his opponent tucked his tail between his legs and ran out of the pot. Tran took the pot and was around 13,000.
Later, Tran lost all of those chips when he led out for 2,500 on a board of KJ3, only to have the player in seat 1 raise another 5,500 to 8,000 total. Kenny Tran called all in, showing K10 for top pair while seat 1 showed 64 for a flush draw. The turn was the Q, making seat 1's flush. The river was the 2 and Sick Call Kenny made his main event exit.
The Story of a Man Named Brady
Starting the hand with 13,600, Matt Brady raised to 575 from early position. The player on the button repopped to 1,500 and Brady made the call. The flop was 1067 and both player checked. The turn was the 8 and Brady fired 1,500 in the pot and the button raised to 5,000. Brady tanked for several minutes, then asked his opponent how much she had left (9,600). He then moved all in for 10,600 total. She took her turn in the tank before saying, "I can't beat a set of tens," and she folded. Brady smiled as he raked in the pot and was at 17,800.
Tuan Le Busts
Tuan Le had just under 5,000 in chips when he moved all in on the turn with an eight-high board. He had a top pair of eights, but he ran into his opponent's overpair with pocket jacks. The river failed to help him and Le made his exit early in Day 1B of the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

Isabelle Mercier Scoops a Pot Off of Patrik Antonius
Omaha
Daniel Negreanu limped from under the gun and Isabelle Mercier raised from middle position. Patrik Antonuis called the raise from the big blind as did Negreanu. The flop came AQJ, and both Antonius and Negreanu checked to Mercier who bet. Antonius called and Negreanu folded. The turn was the 3 and Anonius checked to Mercier who bet, Antonius called. Goodwin: A3Q2 - X-X-X
Tomko turned over two pair (jacks and eights) on seventh street and Goodwin mucked his hand. Tonko climbed up fom the short stack a little bit to around 60,000 while Goodwin fell down to about 120,000 in chips after this hand.
Eli Elezra Eliminated

Elezra: A274 - X-X-X
Mercier: 6988 - K32
Elezra made two pair on the river, no low, while Mercier turned over three clubs for a king-high flush. Elezra is eliminated from the tournament while Mercier chips up to just about 300,000.

His opponent bet 600, Krause raised to 1200, and his opponent drove it to 1800, which Krause called. Krause added the 9, his opponent the 7, and both players committed another 600. After seventh street Krause bet and had just 600 behind. His opponent called and Krause rolled over Q64 for the flush.
Ivey Flushes to Victory
Phil Ivey had the bring-in with the 2 and called a completed bet to 300 to be heads up with an opponent showing 7. Ivey added 66 through fifth street, and check-raised his opponent to 1200, the other player now showing 7A8. Ivey added the A on sixth street, his opponent the 3, which brought 600 more from each player. After betting and getting called on seventh, Ivey showed K92x for the nut flush, and his opponent mucked.
Aces Enough for Barbieri
Al Barbieri was heads up, trailing on third street and leading on fourth when he showed 8A. His opponent showed A5. Barbieri added the A on fifth street and bet 600, but drew another call. Barbieri bet another 600 on sixth street adding the 4. His opponent, now holding A59Q, made the laydown.
Tomko Lets it Go
Dewey Tomko wsa the lone caller for 300, showing the 7. His opponent had the 10 up, and there had been a seven and 10 tossed into the muck before play became heads up. Tomko called 300 after receiving the J on fourth street, but folded on fifth after drawing the 3. His opponent now showed 10K8.
Sklansky Keeps Hanging On
David Sklansky committed his final 1000 to the pot while showing A8, after a raise and reraise. His opponent held Q4. After the hole cards were exposed, Sklansky proved to have a buried AK, while his opponent had a second queen. Sklansky wound up adding a third ace on sixth street and now has 3600 in chips, still a significant short-stack.

Eskimo Clark Eliminates Another
Paul "Eskimo" Clark scooped an 1800 pot when he turned over king-queen for two pair, busting an opponent who was all-in. The next hand, Clark completed the bring-in to 150 with the 9, and his lone call came from the bring-in who held 3. When Clark drew the 9 on fourth street, his opponent folded at Clark's first move towards his stack.
Tomko Takes it Down
Dewey Tomko had the bring-in with the 4, one player limped with the J, then seat 7 raised with 8. Tomko called and the other limper folded. He bet out for 300, and his opponent, who added the 9, made the fold.
Hellmuth Can't Catch
Seat 4 made the initial bring-in for 50, and Phil Hellmuth as next to act made it 150 to play with the 8. He drew calls from three others, and added the A on fourth street to control the betting, which drew three more calls. The 9 followed on fifth street for Hellmuth, but he was dropped into a calling role as seat 6 showed 10710 to take the action. It remained a four-way pot through sixth street, when after three checks, a new country was heard from as seat 1 bet out while showing 7K510. Hellmuth and the other two players called, and seventh street was dealt. Again play was checked to seat 1 who bet 300. Hellmuth, now showing 8A9Q, made the fold, as did seat 6 with 10710K. The final resistance came from seat 8 who called while showing A826. He showed a buried ace for top pair, but seat 1 had wired fives in the hole for three of a kind to take the pot down.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Breaks are for the Weak
Barry Greenstein, currently heads-up with Chris Klodnicki in the $1,500 razz event, has decided to use his break in that tournament to play some limit hold’em. Despite having 750,000 in razz, Greenstein has a paltry 15,000 chips here in the $10,000 limit event. Though that tends to happen when you sit out of a tournament for hours at a time.
Edler Out
Bill Edler raised pre-flop to 1,600 and got one caller in the small blind. Both players checked the AJ6 flop. And on the K turn, Edler tossed in his last 1,300 chips. The small blind instantly called and turned over QT for a turned straight and Edler’s A2 was drawing dead.
Full- Blown Tomko
Dewey Tomko just took a big pot down against Greg Mueller and Hoyt Corkins: Corkins raised pre-flop from middle position and Tomko called one to his left. Mueller called from the small blind and the flop was seen by those three. Mueller bet into his opponents on the K76 flop, and Corkins quickly raised him. Tomko, without much thought, made the call, and Mueller called as well. The turn was the Q and Mueller and Corkins both checked. Tomko bet and took down the pot right there. Tomko now stands at 29,000, a bit above Corkins’ 22,000 but still well behind Mueller’s 53,000.
Schulman’s Set Superior
Nick Schulman bet into his opponent on the river with the board showing A9677. His opponent called and Schulman tabled 99 for the full house, growing his stack to 26,000.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Katz True To His Word
Aaron Katz has been talking constantly about how he has yet to show down a bad hand, and, in a pot against Jerrod Ankenman, he backed up his banter. Ankenman raised from middle position and Katz re-raised on his left to 1,800. Action folded back around to Ankenman who made the call. Ankenman check-raised the AJ3 flop and Katz called. Ankenman bet the J turn and Katz cagily raised, drawing a call from Ankenman. The dealer put out the 3 on the river and Ankenman check-called. Katz tabled AK and took down the pot. Maybe next time someone at the table will respect Katz’s raise. Until then, Katz will be sitting behind a stack of 320,000 chips. Ankenman still has 250,000.
Hanging Around
Andy Bloch raised from the small blind and Tommy Hang in the big blind called. Hang raised Bloch’s bet on the Q52 flop and Bloch called. Action on the turn and river – K and 3 – went check-bet-call, and Hang won the pot with two pair, showing KQ. Hang has now climbed to 180,000 while Bloch, still the chip leader, is down to 350,000
River Dagger Cripples Lawrence
Rob Hollink raised from late position and the only caller was Spencer Lawrence in the big blind. The flop came Q95 and Lawrence bet out. Hollink raised, Lawrence 3-bet, and Hollink just called. The A on the turn was followed by a bet by Lawrence and another call by Hollink. Lawrence bet the river and the Dutchman raised him. After a minute of thought, Lawrence made the call. Hollink tabled the nuts: JT. After the hand Lawrence was left with only 20,000 while Hollink grew his stack to 165,000.

Big Hands and Storylines:
How much?!
The tournament screen displaying information for the next level showed that the bring-in would be 3,000 chips. This prompted a word from the supervisor that the bring-in for the next level would in fact be 300 and not 3,000. That, of course, makes much more sense considering the stakes will only be 1,000-2,000.
Nassif Takes a Pot Off Levi
Edward Nassif: 35K5
David Levi: 62Q2
The player in the 2 seat raised with the 5 up and David Levi called. Ed Nassif raised and both players came for 4th street. On 4th street Nassif bet, the 2 seat folded and Levi called. Levi then took the initiative and bet on 5th and 6th streets after two abysmal cards were dealt to Nassif. Nassif called twice however, and on 7th street both players checked. Levi turned over (7-3-3) for a Q-7-6-3-2 low and Nassif seemed shocked when his (Q-6-4) underneath allowed him to take down the pot with a meager Q-6-5-4-3. Nassif is now up to 19,000 and Levi is still tops with 61,000.
Merrifield on a Run
Starting the day with only 8,000, Steven Merrifield has done a tremendous job of running his stack up to 25,000. A good deal of that money came from a recent pot contested with Andy Bloch:
Merrifield: T672
Bloch: Q749
Merrifield bet out with his superior upcards on 5th, 6th, and 7th streets and on each occasion he was called by Bloch. Merrified showed T65 for a T-7-6-5-2 low, good enough to scoop the pot. After the pot Bloch was left with 18,000.
Sklansky Bucks Lawson
Ted Lawson bet on 4th street with the 4 up and David Sklansky called showing the 4. On 4th street, Lawson was dealt the 5 and Sklansky the 6; both players checked. On 6th street Sklansky was dealt the 7 and bet into Lawson who drew the Q. Lawson folded and Sklansky won the pot. It’s not all bad news for Ted Lawson though, as he still has nearly 30,000 in chips. Sklansky has about 10,000.

Ivey Gaining Steam
The action picks up on the flop of A24. The small blind bet into Ivey and he made the call. The turn was the 4 and again the other player bet and was met by a call from Ivey. The river was the J and the action went bet-call a third time. The players showed their hands:
Small blind: A7
Phil Ivey: AQ
The pot was a big one for Ivey who now has a better than average stack of 44,000

AAA Rescues Binger, But Only Temporarily
Binger: A2J10
Opponent 3728
Michael Binger, perilously low on chips, bet on every street and was called all the way down. On 7th street Binger put his last 2,400 chips into the middle. His opponent, not showing a tremendously dangerous board, thought for over a minute before making the call. Binger flipped over (AA5) and took down the pot, doubling up to 20,000. Unfortunately for Binger, he would be eliminated before the end of the level.
Razz
Jurgens on the Move
Tad Jurgens: 2973
Opponent: 27A5
The action on this hand is quite simple to relate. On 4th, 5th, and 6th streets Tad Jurgen called a bet from his opponent. On 7th street the other player bet again but this time Jurgens tossed in a raise. His opponent called and was not at all pleased to see Jurgens turn over (A64) for the second-nut low. The hand brings Jurgens up to 52,000.

Big hands:
David Williams Struggling
After limping before the flop from middle position, David Williams faced a raise to 350 total from the player in the cut-off seat. Williams called, and the flop came 853. Williams checked, and his opponent followed through by betting 700. Williams folded and ended the hand with less than 1,500 in chips.
Big Pot for "BigJoe2003"
The player under the gun raised to 300, drew a call, then Joey "BigJoe2003" Michael raised to 1500. It was enough to get Vanessa Rousso to fold in the small blind, but the original raiser then pushed for 2575, the second player called, and Michael called as well, having both players covered. Michael held AA55, and when the board played out QQ966, his two pair of aces and queens was enough to scoop the pot. The original raiser held J10102, while the first caller held AK107.
Medic Needs No Help
Nenad Medic, gold bracelet winner of the first event of this year's world series, was the button and called to see a flop of K64. Seat 8 bet 'pot' for 1000 and Medic came over the top to put the player all-in. The player folded and Medic improved his chip stack to 5800.
Devilfish Has One Get Away
David "Devilfish" Ulliott was in the cut-off and raised to 550. Another player moved all-in which cost Ulliott just 375 more. Ulliott held AA109 and was up against 9883. His opponent spiked a set on the flop of Q85, and it held through the 4 on the turn and 6 on the river. The loss knocked Ulliott down to 4200 in chips.
Tomko Loses Half His Stack
Dewey Tomko was the lone caller for 1250 after the big blind threw in a reraise. The flop came 1062 and when the big blind bet 1500 Tomko released his hand, now down to 1300 in chips.
Williamson Goes Out
Robert Williamson III raised all in on a J5J flop and was called. Williamson flipped over A-Q-J-x for three jacks while his opponent held ATK3 for a flush draw. He caught his flush when the 7 came on the turn and the river didn't give Williamson a full house.
Boutin Doubles Up
Burt Boutin, who won a bracelet in pot-limit Omaha last year, moved all in on a 3JQ flop and was called by his opponent. The turn and river were 6 and Q respectively. Boutin flipped over QJ98 for a full house, while his opponent showed the Q and mucked his hand.

Big Hands:
Boyd Crippled By Kicker
Dutch Boyd is living on fumes after getting into a battle with Chris Ferguson in the small blind as well as the big blind. Boyd raised preflop to 400 and drew calls from both blinds. The flop came down A85. which drew a check from Ferguson, a bet from the big blind, and subsequent calls from Boyd and Ferguson. The turn was the 9, and action was checked to Boyd who bet 400, and drew calls from both players. The J fell on the river, Ferguson checked and the big blind bet. Boyd called and Ferguson folded. Boyd showed A3 while the big blind held A10 and scooped the pot. Boyd was left with just 1575 in chips.
Boyd had earlier climbed to 4,625 in chips when after a flop of KQ6, he connected for a set when the 10 hit on the turn.
Schwartz Happy wtih Split Pot
Ylon Schwartz had just 175 remaining in chips after all the betting was completed in a three-way pot on a board of A8843. Schwartz looked at his opponent nervously and asked "you have pocket fours?" The player showed ace-king, and Schwartz did the same with AK and both swept in 3,600 in chips.
Tomko Rebounds
Dewey Tomko was down to just 1600 in chips after a series of pre-flop raises that resulted in a short-stacked opponent being all-in. "Well at least I can say I was knocked out by you," said the player, who flipped over QQ. Tomko was behind however, with pocket eights, and the suspense ended with a flop of Q99. The J on the turn and K on the river ended things. Tomko would later rebound however and now sits at 3,400.
Bloch Spilling Chips
Bloch was in the big blind when the player under-the-gun raised. Bloch went to 600, was reraised to 800, then capped betting at 1000 with the initial raiser holding just 175 in chips. The flop came J99 and the remaining chips were centered. Bloch held QQ while his opponent held J10. But the J on the turn filled the opponent.
The very next hand it was the same two players at it again, part of a three-way pot for 600 each. The flop came A76 and all three committed another 400. After the J on the turn, Bloch called another bet, and the 9 came on the river. The big blind bet and Bloch folded, showing 54 for an open-ended straight and flush draw, while the big blind showed JJ for a set hit on the turn. Bloch was suddenly down to 4,100 in chips.
Brenes Being Patient
Humberto Brenes, sitting with just 2,300 in chips, was in the big blind for 200 when it was raised to 400 and three players called. Refusing to make it a five-way pot, Brenes folded.
Elizabeth Still Alive
Shannon Elizabeth began the level with just 1800 in chips, but had the blinds fold to her in the first hand when play resumed, and she has since doubled up.

Schneider Claims Another Tournament Life
The short stack at Tom Schneider's table was in the blinds and forced to put his remaining chips in with 64. Schneider called from the button and showed Q10. The board came J-10-7-7-4 and Day 2's first elimination was in the books. Schneider ad around after the win.
Not The Ideal Start To The Day, Flush Over Flush
On a QJ2AQ board, Greg Monaldi bet and Marco Traniello raised. Monaldi called and Traniello confidently showed 53 for a riverd flush, but Monaldi showed 109 for a better flush. The loss took Traniello down, but he has since battled back up to around 34,400.
Tomko Nearly Doubles, But Remains Low On Chips
On a J107 flop, Dewey Tomko bet and was called by his opponent. Both players checked the 5 turn and when the A came on the river Tomko bet 1,200, leaving himself just 100 behind. His opponent called and Tomko showed A8 for a pair of aces and his opponent shook his head and mucked. Tomko has around 8,000 at the end of the level.
Dutchman Flying The Wrong Way
Marcel Luske bet out on a J1073J board and was called by his opponent, who showed 99. Luske showed A7 and his opponent took the pot - leaving Luske with around 8,000 in chips.
