Matt Matros Wins Event no. 16 ($454,835)Jun 09, '12 Level: 26 Blinds: 25,000-50,000 with a 5,000 ante Matt Matros Wins Event no. 16 ($454,835) Matt Matros entered Level 26 on the short stack and out chipped by more than 2:1, but managed to climb out of the red and then take the chip lead for himself after winning a huge showdown with two pair. That hand put Matros out in front with about 5.1 million to Mark Radoja’s 2.1 million. Matros quickly began to chip away at Radoja’s and stack and got him down to about 1.7 million when the final hand played out. Mark Radoja opened the button for 100,000 and Matt Matros called from the big blind. The flop came 1092, Matros checked, Radoja bet 100,000 and Matros called. The turn was the 8, Matros bet 175,000, Radoja raised to 465,000, Matros three-bet shoved and Radoja called all in. Radoha was all in for his tournament life and had the best hand on the turn with J7 for a made straight against Matros’ flush draw with 65. The river was the 10, completing Matros’ flush and eliminating Mark Radoja in 2nd place ($281,502). Matt Matros wins Event no. 16, taking home the $454,835 grand prize and the sixteenth gold bracelet of the 2012 WSOP. Mark Radoja min-raised the button to 80,000, Ramey Shaio moved all in from the small blind and Radoja called. Shaio was ahead before the flop with 33 against Radoja’s A10. The board came 109274, giving Radoja top pair on the flop and a flush on the river to win the pot and eliminate Ramey Shaio in 3rd place ($182,521). Ramey Shaio opened the pot for 65,000 from under the gun, Mark Radoja reraised to 125,000, Gordon Vayo moved all in for about 500,000, Shaio folded and Radoja called. Gordon Vayo was all in for his tournament life and looking to chop with AK against Radoja’s AK. The board came J10263, giving Radoja a four-card flush to win the pot. Radoja flopped four spades for a free roll and made the flush on the river. Gordon Vayo was eliminated in 4th place ($121,262) after taking what is arguably the toughest beat in no-limit hold’em. Ramey Shaio Doubles Through Matt Matros Ramey Shaio was put on the short stack after Mark Radoja eliminated Gordon Vayo in 4th place ($121,262) but found a double up through the current chip leader to stay alive as the level started winding down. Matt Matros opened the button for 65,000, Raney Shaio moved all in for just over 500,000 from the small blind and Matros called. Matros was ahead before the flop with A9 against Shaio’s QJ. The board came A1057K, giving Matros top pair on the flop but Shaio caught a gustshot on the river to make straight and win the pot. Shaio doubled up to just over 1 million that hand while Matros slipped down to about 3.9 million. Ramey Shaio began the final table as the chip leader with a slight lead over Robert Muzzatti and Matt Matros. Matros managed to take the chip lead about halfway through the first level after winning a nearly 500,000 showdown against Shaio with top pair. That hand gave Matros a slight lead over Shaio with about 1.6 million to 1.55 million. Mark Radoja then had his turn at the top after stealing the lead at the end of level by picking off a big bluff from Robert Muzzatti with a pocket pair of nines on an ace-high board. Radoja entered Level 24 out in front with about 1.7 million with Matros trailing right behind him with roughly 1.65 million. Mark Darner Eliminated in 6th Place ($56,300) Matt Matros opened the cutoff for 54,000, Mark Darner raised to 140,000 from the big blind, Matros four-bet shoved and Darner called all in. Paul Wasicka Doubles Up On an ace-high board Wasicka got all his chips in with A-K and was called by the A-Q of his opponent. He doubled up to 36,000. Greg Mueller Doubles Up Facing a 1,200-chip bet and two calls in front of him, Greg Mueller shoved for about 7,000 with pocket nines and was called by J-J. Fortunately for Mueller he rivered a straight and doubled to 17,000. Matt Matros Wins Event #52 ($303,501)Jul 02, '11 Jonathan Lane Eliminated in 2nd Place ($187,844) Card Player columnist Matt Matros was on the short short stack heading five-handed into the dinner break, but managed to win a big pot shortly after play resumed against then chip leader Brandon Meyers, putting himself back in contention with over 1 million in chips. Matros started Level 24 off by busting Brandon Meyers in 4th place with K K against Q Q, and ended the level after knocking out Matt Hawrilenko in 3rd place by drawing to a flush against Hawrilenko’s made two pair. Matros began heads-up play with a chip lead of about 3.2 million to Jonathan Lane’s 1.1 million. Lane managed to steal the chip lead in Level 25 after turning a wheel to scoop a big a pot right after the break, but his run at the top was short lived after Matros picked off a huge bluff with top pair on a scare board with three to a flush, a baby straight and a pair. That hand put Matros way out in front and it wasn’t long before Lane got the short stack all in before the flop in the final hand of the tournament. Matt Matros button-raised to 65,000 on the button, Jonathan Lane moved all in from the big blind and Matros called. Matros lead with A 10 against Lane’s J 10. Day 2 CompleteJun 13, '11 After a full day of play, the 12 remaining players in event no. 19, the $2,500 six-max limit hold’em tournament, have bagged and tagged their chips. Leading the way is Alex Kuzmin with a stack of 412,000. Card Player columnist Matt Matros is still alive, although riding the short stack with just 69,000.
