Nguyen was behind and didn’t improve, giving Cassidy a double up to 300,000. Their cards: Nguyen: (98)-728J-(A) Schmelev Loses Monster Pot After Brandon Adams completed, Men Nguyen raised, Vladimir Schmelev re-raised and Joe Cassidy raised yet again. Everyone got out of the way except Schmelev. Cassidy continued the aggression, betting every street and getting called by Schmelev until the very end, when he looked at his last card and finally mucked. Their cards: Schmelev: (X-X)-783K-(X) After losing the pot without showing down, Schmelev was on life support with 90,000 in chips. Cassidy boosted to 480,000. Brandon Adams — 850,000 Notable Eliminations: Big Hands: The Master Fills Up After dropping some chips in the previous level, Men Nguyen was able to capitalize on a full house to take a nice pot from Sirous Jamshidi. Jamshidi completed on 3rd street and was called by Michael Mizrachi, Nguyen, and Steve Billirakis. Jamshidi bet and Nguyen raised on 4th street, leading to folds from Mizrachi and Billirakis. Nguyen bet every street left and was called by Jamshidi. The Master was more than happy to show down: Nguyen: (AA)-4749-(A) Nguyen had 360,000 after the hand, and Jamshidi fell to 180,000. Mizrachi Takes One From Cassidy Heads up with Joe Cassidy, Michael Mizrachi bet on every street and was called. Mizrachi finally checked the end and Cassidy checked as well. Their hands were: Mizrachi: (10-2)-103A3-(4) Mizrachi took the pot and chipped back up to nearly 500,000, while Cassidy dropped to 300,000. Vladimir Schmelev — 1,040,000 Notable Eliminations: Eric Buchman – 12th Place ($32,909) Big Hands: The Grinder Clashes With The Master Entering the action late, Men Nguyen was heads up against Michael Mizrachi. Nguyen bet on 4th street and the Grinder raised. Nguyen called, and did the same when Mizrachi bet on 5th street. When Mizrachi bet on 6th street, Nguyen took some time to think over the hand, eventually folding and giving the pot to Mizrachi. Their hands: Mizrachi: (X-X)-7910K The Grinder lost a previous hand to the Master, but this hand put his chip stack back around 450,000. Buchman Busts In 12th Place ($32,909) A short-stacked Eric Buchman completed on third street and was called by the chip leader, Vladimir Schmelev. Buchman led out on 4th street and bet again, getting called. Schmelev connected for a pair of eights on 5th street and put Buchman all in. Buchman called and didn’t improve his buried pair of 4s, busting in 12th place. Schmelev: (49)-10885-(Q) Shortly after, Schmelev was the first to surpass one million in chips. Looks like he’s ready for another final table at the 2010 WSOP. Dehkharghani Crippled, Out In 11th Place ($32,909) Brandon Adams entered the day short on chips, but has since chipped up and in the process knocked out Ray Dehkharghani. Ray called a raise from Adams on 3rd street, then called Adams’ bet on 4th street. Ray bet out on 5th and 6th street and was called. On the end, Ray slowed down and checked. He didn’t look too happy when he called Adams’ final bet. Their hands were: Dehkharghani: (X-X)-42K7-(MUCK) Adams’ trip Jacks took a nice pot and was no longer among the short stacks, holding 400,000 in chips. Shortly after Dehkharghani got all in, again against Adams, and Adams hit a flush to send Dehkharghani out in 11th place. Barlow Falls in 10th Place ($38,676) Todd Barlow got all in in a three-way pot and couldn’t improve upon his pair of nines, falling to Joe Cassidy’s two pair. Level 14 Update: Chaos For Steve O'DwyerDec 16, '09 Blinds: 3,000-6,000 with a 500 ante Players Remaining: 46 out of 329 Chip Counts: 1. Joe Elpayaa — 740,000 Average Chip Count: 429,000 Notable Eliminations: Andrew Robl Big Hands: Complete Chaos on Steve O’Dwyer’s Table Okay, see if you can keep up with this one. Steve O’Dwyer raised to 15,000 from under the gun and Tim Davis called. The flop came out 862 and O’Dwyer checked. Davis bet 15,000 and O’Dwyer check-raised to 47,000. Here’s where it gets crazy. Davis made the call and turned over A6, assuming O’Dwyer was all in. O’Dwyer had decided to bet his last 95,000 dark, which Davis didn’t see, nor call. The dealer, completely unaware that there was still pending action, then produced a jack and a four on the turn and river. The floor was called over and the dealer tried to tell her side of the story. Davis was quiet, presumably because he had no idea whether he had won or not, with O’Dwyer’s hand still concealed. O’Dwyer then reported the action and it was ruled that the turn and river would go back into the deck and two new cards would be turned and rivered. After she began shuffling, the table informed the floor that O’Dwyer had bet dark on the turn and that Davis still had to make a decision on whether or not to call the 95,000. The dealer then turned a deuce and Davis decided to call. O’Dwyer showed 1010 and was ahead, but now needed to fade a clean river to double up. The dealer pulled a nine out of the deck for the river, but in the process had forgotten to burn a card. O’Dwyer, clearly emotionally drained by seeing way too many cards try and take down his overpair, just slumped down in his chair, awaiting the true river. The “real” river was the 5 and O’Dwyer doubled up to about 330,000. Andrew Robl Bites the Dust After losing most of his stack in an earlier hand, Andrew Robl was short and looking for a double up. Antonio Esfandiari raised to 17,000 and Robl moved all in for 23,000 in the small blind. Esfandiari called and said, “It was nice playing with you, Robl” as he turned over the 108. Robl showed AQ, but failed to stay alive after the board ran 98569. Esfandiari Gets a Frustrating Chop Antonio Esfandiari raised to 18,000 and Soheil Shamseddin called in the cutoff. Both blinds called as well and the flop came down AQ2. The blinds checked and Esfandiari bet 41,500. Shamseddin called and the blinds folded. The turn was the Q and both players checked. The river was the A and Esfandiari checked. Shamseddin bet 50,000 and Esfandiari raised to 140,000. Shamseddin called and showed A7. Esfandiari showed AJ and both players chopped the pot with aces full. Esfandiari, clearly frustrated by the situation, had the better kicker and would have taken the pot with most river cards. Daniel Alaei Takes Chip Lead, Becomes First Millionaire We didn’t catch the action on the flop, but Daniel Alaei was all in on the turn of a board reading AA64 against Bryan Devonshire’s AQ. Alaei showed AK and the river was the 10 giving him the pot. Devonshire was left with 18,000 and Alaei now has 1,050,000 and the chip lead. Carter King Doubles Through Joe Cassidy Carter King moved all in for his last 85,500 and was called by Joe Cassidy in the blinds. Cassidy showed AJ, but was way behind to King’s aces and drawing dead by the turn. King is now up to about 190,000 in chips. Player Tags: Antonio Esfandiari, Joe Cassidy, Daniel Alaei, Bryan Devonshire, Soheil Shamseddin, Tim Davis, Andrew Robl, Steve O'Dwyer, Carter King Shawn. Buchanan Wins Nice Pot From Joe CassidyDec 17, '09 Joe Cassidy raised to 50,000 from under the gun and both Curt Kohlberg and Shawn Buchanan called from the blinds. The flop came 874 and the blinds checked to Cassidy, who bet 85,000. Buchanan called and the turn was the 10. Cassidy continued with a bet of 155,000 and Buchanan called that as well. The river was the 5 and both players checked. Buchanan showed J10 and took the pot, increasing his stack to 950,000. Player Tags: Shawn Buchanan, Joe Cassidy Farshad Fardad Eliminated in 22nd Place ($28,569)Dec 17, '09 Mike Sowers raised to 50,000 under the gun and Joe Cassidy reraised from the button. Farshad Fardad reraised all in for 600,000 from the small blind and Sowers mucked. Cassidy made the call and they turned over their cards: Fardad: AK Board: 873104 Fardad was eliminated on the hand and Cassidy grew his stack to 1.6 million. Player Tags: Joe Cassidy Joe Cassidy Eliminated in 7th Place ($154,747)Dec 18, '09 Joe Cassidy shoved all in from under the gun for his last 715,000. Josh Arieh then moved all in to isolate and action folded to Scotty Nguyen in the small blind. Nguyen then picked up his cards, flashing A-Q in front of himself, despite Buchanan having to act behind him. After mucking his cards, Buchanan called all in holding pocket queens and things got a little testy. Steve O’Dwyer was clearly annoyed that Nguyen showed his cards to Buchanan and got even more upset when nobody else seemed to back him up. Regardless, Cassidy revealed KJ and Arieh showed pocket tens. The board ran out J5475 and Cassidy was eliminated, nearly tripling up Buchanan in the process. Player Tags: Josh Arieh, Shawn Buchanan, Joe Cassidy Matt Waxman Eliminated in 15th Place ($47,615)Dec 18, '09 Matt Waxman raised to 77,000 from late position and Joe Cassidy reraised to 187,000 from the cutoff. Waxman reraised all in and Casidy made the call to cover him in chips. Their cards: Waxman: AK Board: J83Q7 Cassidy won the hand with pocket kings and Waxman was eliminated in 15th place. Cassidy now holds 2,255,000 in chips. Player Tags: Joe Cassidy, Matthew Waxman |
