The river was the 9, Hua bet 100,000, Griffin raised to 200,000 and Hua called. Griffin turned over QJ108 for the king-high straight and scooped the pot, eliminating Thayer Rasmussen in 7th place ($31,278) and leaving Hua on the short stack. Player Tags: Herbert Tapscott, Gavin Griffin, Thayer Rasmussen, John Racener Level 27 Update: Raymond Davis Eliminated in 8th Place ($24,111)Jun 03, '12 Level: 27 Blinds: 20,000-40,000 Players Remaining: out of 967 Average Chip Count: 621,642 Chip Counts: Seat no. 1 — Herbert Tapscott — 230,000 Seat no. 5 — Michael Kleist — 685,000 Seat no. 7 — Gavin Griffin — 1,100,000 Players Eliminated: Raymond Davis — 8th Place ($24,111) Live Updates: Raymond Davis Eliminated in 8th Place ($24,111) Thayer Rasmussen opened the pot for 80,000, Raymond Davis called all in and Michael Kleist called the raise for the side pot. The flop came K64, Rasmussen bet 40,000 and Klesit folded. Rasmussen raked the side pot and turned over A432 for the nut flush on the flop against Davis’ top set with KK86. The turn and river were the 10 and the 7, failing to pair the board and Raymond Davis was eliminated in 8th place ($24,111). This pot put Rasmussen at about 450,000 (11 bbs). Short Stacks Stay Alive Despite losing Raymond Davis in 9th place ($24,111), the remaining short stacks seemed to do a good job at picking their spots this level and scoring some much needed double ups to stay alive. John Racener nearly doubled through chipleader Gavin Griffin towards the middle of the level after scooping a pot with a pair of aces and the nut low, putting him up to almost 600,000. Herbert Tapscott found a double up and then some after being knocked down to under 2 big blinds this past level. In a key pot against John Racener and Thayer Rasmussen towards the end of the level, Tapscott found a triple up with wheel which put him back at nearly 7 big blinds to stay alive. Be sure to check back with Card Player at the conclusion of each level for regular updates with all of the action, current chip counts, and prize distributions. Thayer Rasmussen EliminatedFeb 27, '11 Thayer Rasmussen stopped by to tell us about his bustout hand. A player raised on the button and Rasmussen moved in for his last 55,000 from the big blind. His opponent called with A-6 and Ramussen was drawing live with K-J. The flop gave him some additional outs to a straight, but the turn and river bricked, ending his tournament run. Thayer Rasmussen Busts, Nick Grippo Increases Chip LeadNov 14, '10 We didn’t catch the action, but we did see Thayer Rasmussen talking to David Baker on the rail. Apparently, Nick Grippo got the rest of Rasmussen’s stack and now sits at over 400,000 in chips. We’re pretty confident that’s good enough for the chip lead at this point. Level Seven, Hour Two: Veldhuis Uses Rags to Make RichJul 09, '10 Blinds: 300-600 with a 75 ante Players Remaining: 1,800 out of 2,412 Card Player Chip Counts Barry Shulman – 124,000 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. Dragan Galic – 300,500 Notable Eliminations: Tom McEvoy Big Hands Veldhuis Uses Rags to Make Rich Facing a raise to 1,600, Lex Veldhuis reraised to 4,250 only to have the big blind move all in for 14,350. The original raiser got out of the way but Veldhuis called. Their hands: Veldhuis: 98 Veldhuis nailed the flop of 975 and the big blind found no help from the 7 turn and 2 river. Veldhuis eliminated his opponent and chipped back up to 96,500. South Soars With Set Over Set With a flop of A95 on a pot worth 16,500 already, all three players checked around to see the 2 land on the turn. The first player bet, the second called, and Cole South moved all in. Both players called and a massive pot was brewing. Their hands: South: AA South had flopped top set and his opponent had second set. The river bricked and South took down a massive pot to grow his stack to 223,500. Rasmussen Chips Up, Knocks Out Player Thayer Rasmussen got an opponent all in preflop and showed pocket jacks to his opponent’s pocket nines. The board ran AK375 and Rasmussen’s jacks held to eliminate him opponent and chip up to 96,000. Baron Gets It In Good, Gets Unlucky Isaac Baron raised to 1,700 from middle position and was three-bet by a player in the blinds to 4,800. Baron asked how much he had left, and after getting an answer, he made the call. The flop was 938 and the player in the blinds checked over to Baron. Baron bet 4,800 and was check-raised to 15,000. Baron bet enough to put the player all-in and he called, putting in his last 30,950 on the flop. Baron showed 33, giving him a set and the all-in player held JJ. The turn was the 10, but the river was the J, giving the player in the blinds a bigger set and taking the pot. Baron dropped to 35,000 after the hit. Glantz Makes a Good Fold Matt Glantz called a bet of 2,200 on the turn from his opponent with the board reading AJA5. The river was the Q and the other player in the hand gently places an orange chip worth 5,000 onto the felt. Glantz quickly released his hand. It was a good decision since the player showed him one card – the A. Glantz is still hovering right around his 30,000 original starting stack. Mizrachi Grinding Back Up On a three-way flop of Q45 the small blind bet 1,500 and Michael Mizrachi called from the big blind. The third player in the hand raised to 8,400 and the small blind folded but Mizrachi called. On the 3 turn both players checked, but on the 3 river Mizrachi bet big — 20,000 to be exact. His opponent called and the Grinder showed 63 for a flopped straight draw that turned into trip threes on the river. After a rough start to the day, Mizrachi took the pot and boosted his stack to 97,000. Pham Busts With Aces David Pham raised to 1,525 and another player reraised to 4,525. Pham quickly moved over the top all in for not much more. His opponent called. Their hands: Pham: AA Pham had his opponent dominated, that is until the board ran out 10QKJ to give Pham’s opponent the straight, then the 7 river added an unnecessary flush, cracking Pham’s aces and sending him to the rail. Pham ended the 2010 WSOP with just one cash. Check out his results here. Ho Staying Alive, Doubles Maria Ho got all in for 15,225 preflop against one opponent. Their hands: Ho: AK Ho was a big favorite, and the low board kept it that way, running 68632. Ho’s hand took down the pot and she doubled to around 31,000. Seiver Takes It Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 93210. Scott Seiver checked and his opponent did the same. The river was the J and both players checked again. Seiver tabled 98 for a pair of nines. His opponent mucked and Seiver took down the pot. He was at 72,000 after the hand. Naujoks Can’t Stand Check-Raise After one player checked, Ralph Perry bet 5,000 on a flop of J62. Sandra Naujoks made the call in position and the other player folded. The turn was the 3 and Perry checked. Naujoks fired 5,000 and Perry came back with a check-raise to 15,000. Naujoks went into the tank for a minute or so before releasing her hand. She slipped to 40,000 while Perry climbed to 140,000. Ted Forrest Eliminated Ted Forrest got all of his chips in preflop with 55 against his opponents AK. After the ESPN cameras got there, the dealer put out a flop of Q102, giving his opponent a ton of outs to improve. The K on the turn gave his opponent the best hand and left Forrest with one out. The A on the river gave the pot to his opponent and Forrest was eliminated. If you check out the Card Player poker odds calculator, you can see that even though the A-K didn’t pair up on the flop, it was still a statistical favorite to win the hand. Forrest is eliminated from the main event and this caps off a very disappointing series for Forrest, who only made one cash in 2010, in the $2,500 2-7 triple draw lowball event for $9,972. Left in the Deck: Seiver Has a Future In Curling After passing by Scott Seiver’s table, we overheard him talking with David Bach about making a run at the U.S. Olympic Curling team. “I have alot of bowling experience,” said Bach. “That should give me an edge.” “It probably does, we would just have to figure out who is going to sweep,” replied Seiver. There was a joking tone, but it wouldn’t surprise us to see those two on the ice in four years. Player Tags: Thayer Rasmussen, V R Thayer Rasmussen Doubles UpSep 17, '08 After getting dangerously short, Thayer Rasmussen moves all in for just over 300,000 in the cutoff. Mark Seif calls from the big blind showing A3. Rasmussen shows Q8 and will need a lot of help to survive. He gets it when the flop comes K95 giving him a flush. The turn and river come AA and Rasmussen doubles up to about 720,000. Player Tags: Mark Seif, Thayer Rasmussen Thayer Rasmussen Takes a Monster HitSep 17, '08 Thayer Rasmussen raises in the cutoff and Dan Heimiller reraises to 220,000 from the small blind. Rasmussen thinks it over before reraising to 500,000. After a long time of though, Heimiller calls and both players see a flop of AK2. Heimiller checks and Rasmussen checks behind. On the 8 turn, Heimiller bets a smallish 375,000. Rasmussen calls and the river is the 5. Both players check and Heimiller announces that he has an ace, turning over A3. Rasmussen says that it is good and mucks his hand. After the hand, Rasmussen has 880,000 and Heimiller is up to 3,550,000. Player Tags: Thayer Rasmussen Ted Forrest Eliminated in 27th Place ($26,000)Sep 17, '08 Well, that was quick. On one of the first hands of play, Ted Forrest got his 600,000 chip stack in with pocket aces against Thayer Rasmussen's pocket eights. Rasmussen continued to run well as an eight hit the flop and sent Forrest home prematurely. Rasmussen is now in second chip position with over 2,000,000.
