Alex Jacob Moves All-in On The River
On a board of 4 8 Q 10 10 , Alex Jacob moved all in for 137,000 against the big stack of Chris Moneymaker. Moneymaker went into the tank for quite some time asking Jacob if he would show his hand if he folded. Jacob was stone faced and took down the large pot once Moneymaker folded. Jacob is now up to 450,000.

James Mackey Wins a Coin-flip, Eliminates Shawn Buchanan
After some raising, James Mackey moved all-in pre-flop for 114,500 and Shawn went into the tank for minutes. Buchanan counted his chips, noticing that Mackey had him covered and eventually made the call. Mackey turned over K Q and Buchanan tabled the 10 10 . The flop of J J 5 was safe for Buchanan but the Q on the turn made the situation grim. The river brought the 7 and Mackey’s chip stack rose to 310,000.

Minh Ly Doubles Up
Minh Ly raised from early position and was called by Barry Greenstein in middle position, Phil Ivey in the small blind, and Layne Flack in the big blind. The flop was Q 9 7 and Ivey bet out and Flack folded. Ly raised, Greenstein folded, and Ivey called. On the 3 turn Ivey check-called a bet from Ly. The river was the A and Ivey checked again. Ly bet, leaving himself only 20,000 behind, and Ivey folded rather quickly. The pot brought Ly up to 150,000 and knocked Ivey down to a perilously low 100,000.

Greg Mueller Eliminated
After a raise and a re-raise, Greg Mueller was all-in on third street against Chris Reslock:
Mueller: (2 )(9 )4 J J 10 9
Reslock: (3 )(6 )4 5 J 10 7
After all of the cards had been dealt, Reslock’s 7-low was good to take down the smallish pot. Mueller, unlike most players who dart from the tournament floor at light speed, lingered around his table for a few minutes before taking a leisurely walk out of the Amazon Room.
Dario Minieri Eliminated
Having gotten all-in as a short-stack a number of times in the Omaha/8b portion of the event only to repeatedly claim a chopped pot, Dario Minieri got himself all-in on third street against Andy Bloch in razz. There would be no split pot this time; it was either double up or go home for Minieri. Unfortunately for the diminutive Italian, he would be sent packing. Despite starting with 5-2-A, he could only make a 9-8 low. Bloch’s 5-3-2 turned into an 8-5 on seventh street and the pot was his. Bloch now has about 210,000.
Stud
Isabelle Mercier Eliminated
Ralph Perry: A A 9 3
Justin Bonomo: J 9 7 4
Isabelle Mercier: 7 3 2 2
On seventh street, with Isabelle Mercier all-in, Ralph Perry bet into Justin Bonomo. Bonomo mulled over a decision and opted to simply call. Perry insta-mucked, not even giving Bonomo a chance to show his cards. When Bonomo did reveal his downcards – (Q )(6 )(5 ) – it was apparent to Mercier that he had made a flush, and that her day was over. Bonomo is now up to 170,000.

Ace-High No Good For Mackey
James “mig.com” Mackey, who has found quite a bit of success in mixed events this year, hit a bit of a road block in Alexander Kostritsyn in the last level. Kostritsyn raised to 12,000 on the button and Mackey upped it to 18,000 in the big blind. Kostritsyn called. On a flop of K J 6 , Mackey bet and the young Russian called. Mackey bet and Kostritsyn called again on the 5 turn. Action halted on the river when both players checked the 6 . Mackey showed A 3 for ace-high and was beaten by Kostritsyn’s pair of jacks with J 10 . The hand boosted Kostritsyn to 180,000.
Omaha/8b
Big Stacks Tangle
The holders of two of the biggest stacks of the tournament, Phil Ivey and Bill Chen, played an Omaha eight-or-better pot in the last round that resulted in a scoop for one of the two. Ivey raised from early position and it folded around to Chen in the big blind. Chen made the call and the flop came off 8 6 5 . Chen check-raised Ivey on the flop and Ivey made the call. Chen bet the 2 turn and Ivey made another call. Both players checked the 4 river and Chen showed Q Q 7 4 for a straight and a 7-low. Ivey rapped the table and Chen raked in a pot to move to 420,000 in chips. Ivey is not to be pitied though, as he ended the level with 500,000.

From Russia With Low
Ralph Perry: 2 J 3 Q
Justin Bonomo: A 2 8 J
Michael Joseph completed with the 3 showing on third street, Perry raised, and Bonomo made it 18,000. Both Joseph and Perry called. On fourth street, Bonomo bet out with A 2 showing, Michael, having drawn a Q , folded, and Perry called despite drawing a jack. On fifth and sixth streets, Bonomo bet and Perry called. Both players checked the river and Bonomo tabled (3 )(2 )(J ). Perry surveyed Bonomo’s cards very closely, then scrutinized his own, before finally revealing (A )(5 )(5 ) for a J-5 low, narrowly edging out Bonomo’s J-8 low.
The pot gave Perry a stack of 245,000. Bonomo is hovering near the 300,000 chip mark.

Marcel Luske Eliminates Steve Sung
Steve Sung, desperately short-stacked, got his chips all-in against Marcel Luske. The news was bad for Sung when Luske showed (A )(Q )10 J K 3 for the broadway straight. Sung had a flush draw though – (9 )(5 )K Q 6 2 . Sung looked at his final card and then stood up and quickly left the table. After winning the pot Luske was up to 290,000.
James Mackey Eliminates Doug Ganger
Doug Ganger: 2 K 7 5
James Mackey: A 7 3 8
Mickey Appleman: K 4 10 8
With only a few thousand chips left, Ganger brought in with his deuce and found himself all-in on third street. Mackey bet every street on the hand and Appleman called him down all the way until seventh street where he folded. Mackey showed (A )(10 )(9 ) and that was good enough to take down the pot and eliminate Ganger. After some early trouble in the level, Mackey has bounced back to 250,000.

Scotty Nguyen Sitting Pretty
With over 11 million in chips, only 11 big bets separated Scotty Nguyen from the title, as both Erick Lindgren and Michael DeMichele were down to their last million each.
NOTE: The players then took a 20-minute break before the blinds increased.
Chip Counts at the Break
Scotty Nguyen - 10,085,000
Michael DeMichele - 3,040,000
Erick Lindgren - 1,675,000
300 and Counting
As the final three players continue to press on, the 300 hand mark has come and gone, despite both short stacks being dangerously close to the felt for quite some time.
Erick Lindgren Eliminated in Third Place ($781,440) - Stud
With a board reading 8 7 K 4 , Erick Lindgren was all in against Scotty Nguyen on sixth street. Lindgren turned over his hole cards to reveal A 8 and Nguyen showed his pair of nines. Lindgren needed to improve to stay alive, but his final card was the 2 , sending him home in third place.
Despite his disappointing finish, Lindgren has taken over the WSOP player of the year leader board, sitting just a few points ahead of Barry Greenstein andd Jacobo Fernandez.

Nguyen showed A-8-6-3 for the nut low and the nut straight and scooped a huge pot to give him back the chip lead, and send DeMichele to the bottom of the board.
Michael DeMichele on the Short Stack
After leading much of three-handed play, Michael DeMichele is now on the short stack, sitting with less than 10 big bets. Erick Lindgren is not far ahead of him, as Scotty Nguyen has dominated the last couple rounds to open up a bit of a lead.

Stacks Getting Shorter
With approximately 15 million in chips in play, the average stack at this point is just under 5 million, giving the players an average of about 20 big bets remaining in three-handed play. Pretty much any hand that reaches the turn, or fourth street is going to cost someone a big portion of their chips.
Erick Lindgren Doubles Up
Down to his last 900,000, Erick Lindgren needed some help to stay alive in the round of Stud. On sixth street, Lindgren was all in against Scotty Nguyen. Lindgren held just a measly pair of fives, but it was ahead of Nguyen's two overs and a diamond draw. Nguyen needed a queen, jack or a diamond to make Lindgren sweat his final card, but the K meant that Lindgren didn't even need to look, doubling up to almost 2 million in chips.
Erick Lindgren Picks Up Some More
Immediately after doubling up, Lindgren went on a tear during the hold'em round, winning three big showdowns against Scotty Nguyen to bring him close to 4 million in chips.

Lyle Berman was getting short and put the last of his chips in the pot during a razz hand against Scotty Nguyen and Michael DeMichele on third street. In the end, DeMichele revealed a 7-5 low to take the pot and eliminate the World Poker Tour founder in fifth place.

With over 11 million in chips, only 11 big bets separated Scotty Nguyen from the title, as both Erick Lindgren and Michael DeMichele were down to their last million each.
NOTE: The players then took a 20-minute break before the blinds increased.

Scotty Nguyen raised and was reraised by Michael DeMichele. Nguyen called and the flop came down 9 7 2 and DeMichele bet. Nguyen called and the turn was the 5 . DeMichele continued with a bet and Nguyen called. The river was the 5 and DeMichele bet once again. Nguyen raised and was called.

In the end, DeMichele revealed a 7-5 low to take the pot and eliminate the World Poker Tour founder in fifth place.

Barry Greenstein Eliminated in Sixth Place ($355,200) - Stud 8/ob
After Seed's elimination, it was up to Barry Greenstein to avoid elimination on the short stack. In one of the last stud eight-or-better hands of the level, Greenstein bet his last 160,000 on seventh street with a board showing 4 A A 10 . Scotty Nguyen made the call and Greenstein showed another four for Aces up. But Nguyen held pocket sevens to go along with another on his board to make trips and send Greenstein packing in sixth place.
This cash marks Greenstein's third consecutive cash in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event and is the only player to cash in all three.
Scotty Nguyen Wins A Monster Pot - Omaha 8/ob
Scotty Nguyen bet and raised his way to a monster scoop during the Omaha eight-or-better round of play. He got Matthew Glantz and Erick Lindgren to call him down on a board of K 9 4 3 6 and revealed A-K-5-2 for the nut-low and a six-high straight to scoop both halves of the pot. This pot put him

Big Hands:
Limit Hold’em: Gus Hansen Eliminated in 10th Place ($45,120)
After being crippled just before the scheduled break, Gus Hansen’s tournament fate became even more dire during the limit hold’em round. Eli Elezra raised from the button, and Hansen three-bet from the small blind. Eli called, and Hansen bet before the flop fell J J 8 . Eli deliberated, finally raising all in. Elezra was ahead with the A 9 against Hansen’s K Q . The turn and river did nothing for Gus, and Elezra’s double-up left Hansen with less than 24,000 in chips.
Gus Hansen was eliminated on the next hand by Sam Farha, earning him a 10th place finish and sending the remaining players to the final table bubble.
Stud 8: Decision Time for David Oppenheim
After not successfully winning a pot for several orbits, David Oppenheim was put to the test by Tom Dwan during the stud eight-or-better round. Showing a board of K K 5 , Tom Dwan made a bet that would have essentially committed all of Oppenheim’s chips to the middle. Oppenheim pondered for several minutes while staring down his opponent’s board and comparing it with his own, A K 9 . He eventually folded, and as he did so Dwan showed him the 5 from his hole cards. Oppenheim was decimated by the loss with only 30,000 in chips remaining.
During that hand, a decision was made by the floor staff to randomly draw one player from the table of five to join the table of four. James Mackey was selected to move, which was particularly significant. Mackey and Dwan had been virtually even in chips at their table, with the remaining players (Oppenheim, Anthony Rivera, and James Madsen) being short stacks playing very conservatively. Consequently, the majority of the pots had been contested by Dwan and Mackey. With Mackey joining the other table, Dwan was free to hijack many pots without resistance. Dwan raised every hand during his table’s four-handed play.
Stud 8: David Oppenheim Eliminated in 9th Place ($45,120)
David Oppenheim’s difficult struggle on the final table bubble finally came to an end during the stud eight-or-better round. He was able to put all of his chips into the middle on third street with K 8 8 , called only by Jeff Madsen with A 5 5 . Oppenheim caught the K on fifth street, but Madsen’s A on sixth street overtook David’s two pair and sent him to the rail.

2-7 Triple Draw: Hansen Shows Glantz the Money
After the third drawing round in a hand of deuce-to-seven triple draw, Gus Hansen checked and faced a bet from Matt Glantz into a large pot. Gus contemplated for several minutes before laying down his hand. As Glantz dragged the pot, he offered to let Hansen see his hole cards for $200. Gus agreed and took a peek. “Wow! Seven-six low,” Gus commented as he took two $100 bills from his wallet and tossed them to Glantz. “Maybe I should’ve asked for $300,” wondered Glantz.
2-7 Triple Draw: Hansen Crippled After Triple Draw Cooler
In the last hand of deuce-to-seven triple draw before the limit hold’em round began, Gus Hansen found himself involved in a large pot with Michael DeMichele. Hansen check-raised DeMichele after the last round of drawing, adding to the already large pot. DeMichelle just called Hansen’s raise and turned over eight-six-four low. Hansen stood up and despairingly flipped over eight-six-five low. Gus was left with only around 150,000 in chips at the end of the hand and is once again in immediate danger of elimination.

Razz: Jeff Madsen Eliminates Eric Froehlich and Sends Play to Hand-For-Hand
During the razz round, Jeff Madsen and Eric Froehlich contested a pot and ultimately had all the money in the middle by fifth street. Madsen had Froehlich covered by only a few hundred, and during the showdown Madsen turned over A J 9 8 9 6 3 . Froehlich mucked his cards and headed for the rail. Play continued hand-for-hand and remained at level 14 until another player was eliminated.
Meanwhile, a debate broke out between Eli Elezra and Greg Mueller over the WSOP procedures for bubble play. Elezra was concerned over what would happen if two players busted during one round of hands. Rio tournament supervisor Bill Bruce explained to Elezra the WSOP bubble policy. If the two players that bust simultaneously are playing at different tables, the 24th place prize money would be divided equally between the two players. If both the eliminated players are from the same table, whoever began the hand with more chips would take all the 24th place prize money and the other player would be the 25th place finisher. Eli proposed that they discontinue the hand-for-hand, as he was concerned about how much time would expire before the bubble was broken. Mueller reminded Elezra that the tournament clock was frozen, so no tournament time would be lost.
7-Stud: Madsen Doubles Through Johnny Chan
Moments after eliminating Eric Froelich in 26th place, Madsen found himself all in against Johnny Chan during the seven-card-stud round and in danger of being the bubble boy. Fortunately for Madsen, he pulled a lucky 3 on the river to stay alive and double up. All four tables were playing different games during the bubble period, so when one table finished their hand virtually all the remaining players began gathering around the active table until the hand was completed.
Stud 8: An Eli Elezra Eliminates Minh Ly on the Bubble, Cripples Brunson
After returning from the scheduled break to continue bubble play, Doyle Brunson, Eli Elezra, and Minh Ly found their way into a massive three-way pot that ended with Minh Ly as the bubble boy and left Doyle Brunson with less than 50,000 in chips. Ly, who was all in on fourth street, showed a final board of A K Q 6 to Brunson’s A T 9 7 and Elezra’s K 5 5 3 . After receiving his river card, Elezra made a bet into the side pot with Doyle. Brunson announced that he had failed to make his low draw, and folded. Elezra turned over Q 5 2 , the better hand over Ly’s A 5 3 . Players redrew for their new seats and began play at level 15.

Hansen considered the situation before folding, and the other player quickly called and revealed the 6 for a six-high straight. Johnny World stood up and showed his cards while preparing to hit the rail. Hennigan’s hole cards revealed that he had a split pair of aces.
Stud 8: Mike Sexton Survives Elimination
Meanwhile, Mike Sexton also found himself all in during the stud eight-or- better round on table 47. His all in bet was called by both Sam Farha and Tom Scneider, but when the river card was dealt Mike Sexton split the pot with Farha and continues to stay alive.
