The winner of the 2011 World Series of Poker $1,500 no-limit hold’em triple chance is 26-year-old poker pro David Diaz, who outlasted a large field of 1,340 players to take home $352,808 in prize money late Thursday evening.
The childhood cancer survivor beat out late runs by established pros such as Bill Chen (4th), J.C. Tran (28th), Cliff Josephy (37th), Carlos Mortensen (40th), Ted Forrest (80th), and David Sklansky (142nd), before dueling against eventual runner up Anders Meli for the hardware and all the cash. The win brings the Tennessee resident’s career tournament earnings to nearly $800,000

Matthew Henson Eliminated in 9th Place ($25,253)
Shortly after doubling through David Diaz midway through the level, Matthew Henson wouldn’t be so lucky this time around after getting it all in on a flop of K 8 2 against David Diaz for a little under 250,000.
Henson showed A 4for the nut flush draw while Diaz showed K J for top pair. The turn and river were the 7 and the 10, no help for Matthew Henson who was eliminated in 9th place ($25,253).
Nick Rampone Eliminated in 8th Place ($32,381)
William Chen raised to 51,000, Nick Rampone called, David Diaz reraised to 180,000, Chen shoved, Rampone called all in and Diaz folded.
Rampone showed J J for a pair, but Chen turned over Q Q for a higher pair.
The board came 10 6 5 9 4, no help for Nick Rampone who was eliminated in 8th place ($32,381).
Justin Sternberg Eliminated in 7th Place ($42,059)
Andrea Dato had just doubled through Sternberg in a previous hand, leaving him with just 150,000 or roughly five big blinds.
Justin Sternberg open-shoved the short stack before the flop and Anders Meli called.
Sternberg turned over 9 9 for the lead while Meli showed A 10 for the draw.
The board came 9 7 4 8 6, giving Sterberg top set on the flop, but Meli went runner-runner to river the ten-high straight. Justin Sternberg was eliminated in 7th place ($42,059).
Richard Trigg Eliminated in 6th Place ($55,355)
Anders Meli doubled through Richard Trigg right before his final hand, leaving him with roughly 100,000.
Trigg min-raised under the gun, William Chen called out of the small blind and Corey Hastings called from the big blind.
The flop came 5 2 2, it was checked to Trigg who moved all in for 25,000 and both players called.
The turn was the 6 and both players checked.
The river was the 3, Chen bet and Hastings folded. Chen turned over a four for a six-high straight and Richard Trigg was eliminated in 6th place ($55,355).
Corey Hastings Eliminated in 5th Place ($73,915)
Andrea Dato min-raised from under the gun and Corey Hastings called from the small blind.
The flop came K Q 9 and both players checked.
The turn was the A, Hastings bet 60,000 and Dato called.
The river was the 5, Hastings bet 75,000, Dato shoved and Hastings called all in.
Dato turned over Q 6for the nut flush on the river and Hastings flashed A A for top set on the turn before throwing his cards into the muck. Corey Hastings was eliminated 5th place ($73,915).
William Chen Eliminated in 4th Place ($100,200)
William Chen open-shoved for 345,000 before the flop and David Diaz called.
Chen turned over K 5 for the lead against Diaz’s J 10.
The board came 7 6 6 J 2, giving Diaz top pair on the turn. William Chen was eliminated in 4th place ($100,200).
Andrea Dato Eliminated in 3rd Place ($138,044)

Dato turned over A K for a big lead over Diaz’s Q 4.
The board came 6 4 2 J 3, giving Diaz middle pair on the flop. Andrea Dato is eliminated in 3rd place ($138,044) while David Diaz takes the chip lead going into heads-up play.
Anders Meli Eliminated in 2nd Place ($218,183)
David Diaz min-raised from the button, Anders Meli moved all in from the big blind and Diaz called.
Meli showed 4 4 for the lead while Diaz turned over A 10 for the draw.
The board came 10 5 3 7 3, giving Diaz top pair on flop. Anders Meli was eliminated in 2nd place ($218,183) while David Diaz won his first gold bracelet in Event #12 ($353,808).
