It seemed like Anton Makiievskyi was content to just grind his way up the pay ladder, having played very few hands at the World Series of Poker main event final table, but he was finally forced to put his short stack into the pot during a blind against blind confrontation.
The action folded to the 21-year-old Ukranian and he moved all in from the small blind holding K Q. Pius Heinz called from the big blind with 9 9 and the two went off to the races.
The flop came down K J J, pulling Makiievskyi into the lead, but the 9 on the turn left him drawing to some paint cards. The river was the 7 and he was eliminated in eighth place.
Makiievskyi earned $1,010,015 for his efforts, but had to be disappointed by the turn card that sealed his fate. With his elimination, Heinz moved into the chip lead with over 60 million in chips, roughly ten times the amount of the short stack.
