2011 Champion Lucien Cohen
The centerpiece of the whole festival is the €5,000 EPT Deauville main event. The 2011 main event set a new record, attracting 891 players and generating a €4,276,800 prize pool. Frenchman Lucien Cohen topped the sizable field on his home turf, taking the title, the first prize of €880,000 and 1,920 Card Player Player of the Year points.
The 47-year-old was the first ever french winner of the EPT Deauville event. Cohen runs a pest control company in Paris, which explains why he is pictured with his company’s mascot, a plastic rat, which he used as a card protector on the way to capturing the title.
In addition to the main event, the series will also play host to a number of other sizable tournaments, including a €5,000 heads-up event, a €5,000 turbo six-max no-limit hold’em event, and a €10,000 high-roller event. Last year, 2010 WSOP Champion Jonathan Duhamel came out on top of a 58-player field in the €10,000 high roller, earning the first prize of $272,209.
