Smith on Day 1 of Event No. 6Event No. 6 ($5,000 no-limit mixed-max) had its first day of action on Thursday, and one of the chip leaders near the end of the night was Gavin Smith. He accumulated his stack in a cooler situation, where he had aces versus McLean Karr’s ace-king and Darren Elias’ kings.

Smith busted Karr on the hand and left Elias with just a handful of small denomination chips.

As he was stacking his monster stack of about 120,000, the dealer asked Smith if he had appeared on TV somewhere. Smith replied, “Yeah, do you watch porn?”

The gregarious poker pro said he’s feeling very good at the Series. He’s played a few events so far, but hasn’t cashed yet. Smith won his only bracelet in 2010.

“I’m playing well and think I am going to have a good year,” Smith said during a break in play. He will probably register for 25 events this summer.

He used to be backed by Erick Lindgren, as Smith said that’s no longer the case. He declined to name the new backer. Lindgren has been a no-show in events so far this summer.
