Timofey Kuznetsov Leads Super High Roller Bowl After Day 1Defending Champion Brian Rast Still In The Hunt |
|
The $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl has had its field set for months, but the 49 world-class players and businessmen finally got their chance to battle it out on the felt at the Aria Resort and Casino on Sunday.
The event, which has no rake and boasts a $15 million prize pool, is in its second year. In 2015, Brian Rast took home the title and the $7.525 million first-place prize. This time around, Rast picked up right where he left off by sending the first player of the day to the rail in good friend Antonio Esfandiari.
Esfandiari lasted just 75 minutes before his pocket queens lost a race to Rast’s A-K. Other notables who failed to get through day 1 included Igor Kurganov, Isaac Haxton, Scott Seiver, Talal Sharkerchi, Haralabos Voulgaris, Connor Drinan and Doug Polk.
The field played for seven levels, but nobody played better than Russian pro Timofey Kuznetsov. Just days removed from winning nearly $750,000 in the $50,000 Aria Super High Roller, Kuznetsov managed to bag up 1,129,500, or nearly three times the average. Matt Berkey, Fedor Holz, Dan Colman and Daniel Negreanu round out the top five.
The action continues on Monday as the field plays down to a final table.
