After beginning the season with 20 contestants, poker pro David Williams has made it to the “magnificent seven” on the latest season of the popular FOX show “MasterChef.”

Williams and his competitors are vying for the $250,000 prize and a cookbook deal. The last episode aired Wednesday. According to Entertainment Weekly, Williams recently made bacon wrapped shrimp with tomato salad and anchovy sauce, just one of many high-end dishes he has prepared during his run.

According to the report, Williams beat fellow Las Vegas chef Shaun because the judges loved that he was able to make “a light, fine-dining dish” in a cast iron skillet.

Williams also successfully navigated through a team challenge, however at one point he wasn’t able to open a champagne bottle and so he tossed it in anger, the report said.

Though he was criticized over the move, it was understood that it came from his desire to win. He received some feedback on Twitter about it, and defended it by saying: “I have put it like this: At the [poker] tables I have to keep it in. In the kitchen I could let it all out!”
