The $50,000 super high roller event at the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown drew a field of 28 entries. German poker pro Dietrich Fast came out on top, striking a heads-up deal with Adrian Mateos that saw him secure the title, a payday of $483,693 and 408 Card Player Player of the Year points.
Fast first made his presence felt on the live tournament circuit in 2016, when he took down the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic main event for $1,000,800. This win in Florida was his second title run of the year, having taken down a $25,000 high roller at the L.A.P.C. this year for $233,860 in late February.
Fast had a tough final table to deal with. The top five finishers, who all made the money in this event, had combined live tournament earnings of more than $40 million dollars heading into this tournament. Jason Koon, who won the $100,000 high roller at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas earlier this year, finished fifth for $110,432. This was his fourth final table of the year.
2016 Card Player Player of the Year award winner David Peters finished fourth for $151,844. Peters now has more than $15.2 million in lifetime life tournament earnings. Rainer Kempe finished third for $220,864. This was the German poker pro’s fourth final table of the year. He has already cashed for $1,175,904 in 2017.
With Kempe gone Fast and Mateos decided to make a deal, agreeing to distribute the remaining prize pool based on their chip counts. Mateos earned $413,567 as the runner-up, while Fast secured the title and the second largest payday of his career.
