Who said World Series of Poker cash games and tournaments are the only ways to win a seven-figure sum playing poker at the Rio casino-hotel in Las Vegas?
Caesar Entertainment said Monday in a press release that one lucky gambler won $1.42 million playing pai gow poker on June 30. The massive prize came thanks to a “progressive” jackpot, which links select pai gow poker tables across nine Caesars-owned casinos. The jackpot reached the $1-million mark back in May.
Caesars did not release the identity of the gambler.
Across the state of Nevada, there are 92 casinos offering pai gow poker. There are a combined 250 tables between those properties. The game generated $98.2 million in revenue for the casinos over the 12 months prior to June 1, 2018, per state figures. Traditional non-banked poker tables generated $119.1 million over the same period.
Down the hall from the Rio’s gaming floor is the annual WSOP tournament festival, held in the casino’s convention center. Through Tuesday, there were 11 players who had won at least $1 million this summer. Below is a look at all of them:

Caesars said in a press release that it has “created more than 778 millionaires since 1987.” There will soon be quite a few more millionaires at the WSOP, as the main event plays down to a final table this week and the $1 million buy-in kicks off July 15.
According to WSOP stats, the poker festival has awarded more than $10 million in prize money to 12 different players over the course of its decades-long history.
