Chin Wei Lim Wins 2019 WSOP Europe €100,000 Diamond High Roller

Chin Wei Lim has won the 2019 World Series of Poker Europe €100,000 Diamond high roller no-limit hold’em event, defeating a field of 72 total entries to win his first WSOP gold bracelet and the top prize of $2,411,035 USD. This massive victory came just a week after Lim finished as the runner-up in the €250,000 buy-in super high roller at the WSOPE for more than $1.9 million.

Lim has now accumulated $6,930,765 in career lifetime live tournament earnings, with his first recorded cash having come in 2014. The Malaysian has broken out as one of the rising stars of the international high stakes tournament poker scene.

In addition to the title and the money, Lim also earned 840 “Card Player Player of the Year":https://www.cardplayer.com/poker-players/player-of-the-year/%20 points as the champion of this event. The score was enough to see him climb into 91st place in the 2019 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.

Lim entered the final day in the middle of the pack with eight players remaining. The first to fall was none other than ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Ivey. The Poker Hall of Famer has been participating in the WSOPE despite ongoing legal trouble that saw his WSOP winnings from the Las Vegas summer festival seized by authorities. Ivey was the shortest stack, and got all-in with A5 preflop. Christoph Vogelsang called with pocket sixes and held up through the river. Ivey earned $235,879 USD as the eighth-place finsiher.

Matthias Eibinger won a preflop coin flip to knock out WSOP bracelet winner Danny Tang in seventh place ($293,528 USD). Start of day chip leader Anatony Filatov picked up pocket kings and got all the chips in preflop against the A9 of Ole Schemion. Filatov made a straight by the river to send the German home with $379,076 USD as the sixth-place finisher.

Lim earned the next two knockouts, eliminating Matthias Eibinger (5th – $507,389 USD) and Christoph Vogelsang (4th – $703,003 USD) to take the lead into three-handed action. Jean-Noel Thorel won a preflop showdown with Anatoly Filatov with his K10 outflopping Filatov’s A3. Thorel held from there and Filatov hit the rail in third place ($1,007,104 USD).

Thorel took a slight lead into heads-up play with Lim, but the tables were quickly turned. It took only four hands for Lim to win the final showdown. Lim’s 84 made a full house on a 84234 runout. On the river he bet and Thorel made a healthy raise with most of his stack in such a way that it was unclear if he was moving all-in or not. It was ultimately ruled that he had indeed shoved with A9. Lim called with his boat and secured the pot and the title. Thorel cashed for $1,490,129 USD as the runner-up finisher.
