Julien Martini took down the €2,500 buy-in short deck event at the 2021 World Series of Poker on Nov. 29 to earn his second career gold bracelet. Just three days later, On Dec. 2, he emerged victorious in the €2,000 eight-game mixed event at the same series to become the first French player to ever win three bracelets.
Martini overcame a field of 61 entries to secure this latest victory, beating German high-stakes player and recent bracelet winner Ole Schemion heads-up to secure the title. The win saw Martini surpass fellow countrymen Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier and Roger Hairabedian, both two-time WSOP champions, to become France’s all-time bracelet leader.
“To have one more bracelet than these two legends is very, very special,” he told PokerNews’ live reporters after coming out on top.
In addition to the hardware, Martini also earned €33,910 ($37,979 USD) and 144 Card Player Player of the Year points for the win. This was his third title and fourth final-table finish of the year. He now sits in 293rd place in the 2021 POY race standings, which are sponsored by Global Poker.
The final day of this event began with 10 players remaining and Schemion in the lead. Artan Dedusha scored the first two knockouts of the day, busting Borja Gross (10th – $3,537 USD) and Roland Israelashvili (9th – $4,113 USD) to narrow the field to eight.
Four-time bracelet winner Max Pescatori was the next to fall. He got the last of his very short stack in playing Omaha eight-or-better, and was scooped by the pair of queens and 8-5-4-3-A low of Schemion. Pescatori earned $4,113 USD for his eighth-place finish.
Schemion also secured the next two eliminations, sending Grzegorz Wyraz (7th – $4,984 USD) and Artan Dedusha (6th – $6,294 USD) to the rail to extend his lead.
Symeon Alexandridis’ run in this event came to an end when his A-2 ran into the A-10 of Nicolas Bokowski while playing no-limit hold’em. Neither player improved and Bokowski’s kicked played to earn him the pot. Alexandridis earned $8,277 USD as the fifth-place finisher.
Martini doubled up with sixes full of jacks beating the pocket aces of Schemion to move into a virtual tie for the lead. Schemion knocked out Mikkel Plum (4th – $11,295 USD) in no-limit hold’em to regain sole control of the lead heading into three-handed action, but he was soon surpassed by Martini after the Frenchman dragged a few hefty pots in a round of stud.

With that Martini took more than a 3.5:1 chip lead into heads-up play with Schemion. He expanded that advantage even further before the final hand was dealt. All the chips got in preflop with Schemion holding K2 against the 87 of Martini. The board ran out 1085106 and Martini made tens and eights to secure the pot and the title. Schemion was awarded $23,475 USD as the runner-up.
