A long final day of play that ended in a four-way chop crowned Antwan Prince as the winner of the inaugural $1,200 buy-in main event at the RunGood Poker Series stop at bestbet Jacksonville that concluded on April 2. He also claimed the $92,796 top prize, an RGPS champions ring, and a seat in the RunGood ProAm at the end of the year.
“It’s still sinking in… definitely excited that I was able to get the ring, I wouldn’t have made the chop without it,” said Prince to the PokerNews reporters after the win. The 29-year-old from Jacksonville also serves in the military, so he only gets to play in poker tournaments so often. He does plan to use his winnings for some investments and a bankroll for the World Series of Poker later this year, but says he will continue playing at his usual stakes moving forward.
The tournament attracted a field of 628 entries thanks to three starting flights, easily surpassing the $300,000 guarantee to create a prize pool of $653,120, and the top 79 players all cashed for at least $1,921. Notables that made the money along the way to the final table included Jonathan Gaviao (10th), James Holland (16th), two-time gold bracelet winner Yuval Bronshtein (26th), Eddy Mroczkowski (29th), Ray Henson (32nd), T.K. Miles (39th), Sean Conklin (47th), Adam Wells (48th), Jonathan Cronin (51st), David Tuchman (64th), and Kris Burchfield (77th).
There were 99 players that returned for the second and final day of the tournament. It proved to be a long 13-hour march down to the final table and eventually the four-way chop. It did just take an hour of play near the start of day 2 to burst the money bubble, however.
Prince was fourth in chips when the final table began, and within the first hour of play, he had increased his stack to the second largest left in the tournament. Prince then took out Jack Summer in eighth place when he woke up with pocket aces, and Marvin Thomas in seventh place when the first conversations about a chop began to take place.
Prince scored a third knockout punch at the final table when he eliminated the previous chip leader Thomas Carroll to take full control of the top stack of the tournament, and that gave him all the bargaining power when the chop was decided. The other players that made it to that final discussion included David Vogel (fourth), Charles Kelley (third), and Dimas Martinez (second).
This was the largest tournament cash by far for Prince, and it was his second victory to go along with a win in a $500 buy-in Pinktober Poker Open event back in October of 2021 at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa.
