Poker Pro Sean Perry Loses Chance At $9 Million After Rejecting Chop

Four Entries Left In Circa Las Vegas NFL Survivor Pool

Sean Perry at WSOPMost sports bettors would probably be happy with a $400,000 score and the chance to play for another $4 million. That wasn’t the case for high-stakes professional poker player and sports gambler Sean Perry.

As the $1,000 buy-in Circa Survivor NFL pool reached the final 13 players last week, 12 of those remaining agreed to that exact deal. However, Perry was the lone holdout – nixing the agreement and choosing to play for the whole enchilada.

Instead, the 27-year-old son of poker pro Ralph Perry counter offered in which he would get $2 million in the deal.

“I said, ‘With all respect, I’m the best bettor in the world. There’s no way I’m ever chopping. I wish you guys all the best. I’ll see you at the finish line,’” he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“Why would I chop when I have an edge? If you do $400K each, any money I take out of the prize pool is money I’m, in theory, losing because I have an edge. I believe I have the best team left, and I’m confident in my ability. This is what I do. I’m a big-time crusher. I’ve been the biggest winner in sports for the longest time.”

And of course, there are good arguments for not chopping.

No Cash, But No Regrets

But despite his bravado, Perry bowed out of the contest over the weekend when the Broncos lost 26-23 to the Patriots. As the NFL gets closer to the end of the regular season, players had limited options when it came to teams they hadn’t selected before.

The Broncos were a 7-point favorite and six of those remaining in the Circa contest also selected the Broncos. There are now only four players remaining and three weeks left to determine a winner. The contest produced a field of 9,267 entries and will pay out almost $9.3 million to the winner.

No doubt many bettors would be disappointed for not cashing in after running so deep, but Perry seemed to have no regrets at rejecting the deal.

“I wish all the haters a merry Christmas, remember that I still am the biggest winner in sports and I will be having a wonderful Christmas still,” he noted on Twitter. “How I found out about the Circa contest was I went in to set up and deposit $1 million into my new Circa account. I proceeded to make $500k within the first couple weeks before my limits got reduced. So gambling at the Circa was still very profitable for me. I still am the #GOAT.”

Life As A Gambler

It seems only fitting that Perry would launch into the world of poker and gambling. His father Ralph is an old-school gambler who has $3.7 million in live tournament poker winnings and won a World Series of Poker bracelet in 2006 for $207,817.

Poker runs in the family and Sean Perry has more than $6.8 million in live tournament winnings himself. That record includes numerous major scores and several high roller PokerGO Tour titles.

In recent years, much of his action has been on sports and he cashed in on moneyline winners in the 2022 and 2023 Super Bowls to the tune of almost $2 million in profits. After the 2022 win, he posted a video of himself stuffing cash winnings in a suitcase.

Perry may not need a suitcase for the Circa Survivor this year, but says the cash isn’t really the goal.

“It’s just another day in the office,” he told the Review-Journal. “I just love the battle. The winning is more important for me than the money.”
