Men Nguyen and Max Pescatori Win at LAPC

Second First-Place Finish in LAPC Prelims for Nguyen

Men NguyenThe L.A. Poker Classic (LAPC) at the Commerce Casino in California continues to be prime pickings for professionals and an opportunity for players to earn Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points.

Men “The Master” Nguyen took down his second 2008 LAPC preliminary tournament late last week. He won event No. 14, a $1,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament, after beating 200 players. Nguyen won more than $80,000 out of the more than $292,000 prize pool. David “The Dragon” Pham also made that final table,Max Pescatori adding 240 POY points to his score for finishing in fourth. That finish put him in eighth place in the POY race.

This most recent win added 480 points to Nguyen's POY standings, moving him up to second place. This was his third final table at the LAPC. He also cashed in 10th place in event No. 8, a $500 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament, and won event No. 10, a $300 buy-in seven-card stud tournament.

World Series of Poker bracelet winner Max Pescatori, also known as the “Italian Pirate,” won event No. 15, a $1,000 limit hold’em event. The total field was 150 players, generating a prize pool of Jack Rosenfeldt$145,500. Pescatori received more than $42,000 for first place.

The latest prelim to end was the $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em shootout. It attracted 160 entrants, which made for a more than $155,000 prize pool. Jack Rosenfeldt won nearly $47,000 for first.

The event that starts today is the biggest buy-in event thus far. It is a $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament that begins at 3:30 p.m. Tomorrow is a $1,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. For a full schedule of the remaining LAPC events, click here.
