Aron Marquitz of Durham, North Carolina took down first place, and a seat in the 2005 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker Main Event, in Hollywood Poker's "Hollywood Poker Celebrity Shootout I."
Marquitz outlasted fellow online poker players, and celebrities in the $20 + $2 buy-in online tournament hosted at http://www.hollywoodpoker.com. The tourney fetched a $10,000 prize pool along with the guaranteed seat in the Legends for the 1st place winner.
The last celebrity to bow out was Kirk Acevedo ("Law & Order: Trial by Jury," "Oz"). For his efforts Acevedo will also be pulling up a chair at the $5,000 Legends of Poker Main Event. Actress Kelli Williams ("The Practice") earned a seat in the ladies event for being the longest lasting female celebrity. Other celebrity participants included Joshua Malina ("The West Wing"), Vince Van Patten ("World Poker Tour"), Michael Woods, Michael Ian Black ("Stella"), Jon Favreau (Swingers), Scott Baio ("Charles in Charge"), and James Woods (Casino).
A second event, the "Celebrity Shootout II" will be held on August 14th, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. eastern time. Another $10,000 prize pool and WPT Legends of Poker seat will be up for grabs. In case the $22 is too steep an asking price, $2 +.25 single table satellites for the "Celebrity Shootout II" are also available on Hollywood Poker.
The Legends of Poker Main Event is being held at the Bicycle Casino is Bell Gardens, California on Saturday August 27th. The living legend himself, Doyle Brunson, is the defending champion. Brunson beat out Lee Watkinson heads-up to take home the championship last year.
