Jason Mercier Makes Some Moves
Jason Mercier was busy this past week in preliminary events at the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic and he jumped from seventh to fifth place on the Card Player Player of the Year leader board in the process. He made the final table of a $1,000 no-limit hold’em with rebuys event to gain 78 points and move ahead of Brock Parker on Sunday. On Wednesday, he won his fifth poker tournament of the year, a $5,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. He was awarded $100,280 in prize money and 288 points, and surpassed Soheil Shamseddin with the win. Mercier now holds 4,130 points total.
Cornel Cimpan also scored a small cash this past week, and it helped him close the gap between him and the current leader, Eric Baldwin. On Saturday, Cimpan won a preliminary pot-limit Omaha event at the European Poker Tour stop in Prague. It was the third tournament win of the year for Cimpan, who took home $53,039 and 264 points for the win. He is now just 268 points off the POY lead.
