APPT LogoPokerStars announced the schedule for the Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Spring Festival of Poker today and there are 25 events on the docket. The tournament series will be hosted at the Casino Grand Lisboa from May 3-23. The highlight of this poker festival will be the $40,000 HKD ($5,160 USD) no-limit hold’em main event that is scheduled for May 18-23. There will be three day-one flights for the main event on May 18-20. The 2009 APPT Macau main event attracted 429 players from 46 countries and the champion was Dermot Blain, who won $541,072 USD.

Season four of the APPT tour began two weeks ago in the Philippines with the APPT Manila PAGCOR Chairman’s Cup, a $1 million guaranteed event that attracted 430 players and generated a $1,042,750 prize pool. “The success of APPT Manila means huge numbers are expected for APPT Macau,” said APPT President Jeffrey Haas. “We have great momentum right now, and all our players and staff are excited about the prospect of having at least three events in our fourth season with prize pools greater than $1M USD.” The APPT Manila main event was the largest poker tournament in Philippines history and the ‘winna in Manila’ was Binh Nguyen who earned $260,700.

With the fourth year of the tour now in full swing, players and organizers are now able to see the growth that is taking place in this new poker market. "I played the very first APPT Macau in 2007 and I’ve been amazed at how quickly poker has taken off in this region. The APPT is now by far Asia’s largest and richest poker tour and has seen incredible growth,” said Team PokerStars pro and former world champion Joe Hachem. APPT President Haas added, “More than just larger prize pools, the larger fields tell the real story. It seems that these years of nurturing poker’s growth in Asia are really starting to have a positive effect on the game’s growth across the region.”

Other highlights at the 2010 APPT Macau tournament series in addition to the main event will be the $88,800 ($11,460 USD) high roller no-limit hold’em event that begins on May 18. The high roller event is scheduled for two days. Another interesting event will be the $1,500 HKD no-limit hold’em express tournaments that take place on May 6 and 11, in which players have only 20 seconds to act. There will also be a $1,000 APPT Macau charity event that will be held on May 13, with $50,000 added to the prize pool by PokerStars. Half of all buy-ins will go directly to a selected local charity. Players will also be highly interested in the free-to-enter mega satellite that will take place on May 13 at 11 a.m. local time. There will be $500 HKD rebuys available for the event and one main event seat is guaranteed as the top prize.
