World Series of Poker -- Day 3 of the 2010 Main EventTen-Time Bracelet Winner Johnny Chan over 600,000 after Day 3 |

At the end of day three of the main event at the 2010 World Series of Poker, 10-time bracelet winner Johnny Chan has hopes of becoming a three-time champion of the event.
Chan said he already has started thinking about winning the same tournament that put him on the poker map more than two decades ago.
However, the game has changed drastically since Chan’s back-to-back wins in 1987-88. “The players are a lot better nowadays,” said Chan, who sits near the top of the chip counts with 636,000.
Fellow poker pro and monster stack Josh Brikis was moved to Chan’s table during the middle of the day. Brikis came to his seat on Chan’s left with about 300,000. However, with position on Chan, Brikis was able to accumulate a stack of 616,900 before the chips were bagged and tagged.
“We played a lot of pots together,” said Brikis. “I like to get involved and be active, and be the table captain most of the time. I had position on Johnny so that helped out a lot. He was very active, but he’s from a different era of play. So, with the position it was helpful in a lot of situations.”
With the tournament chip average hovering around 175,000, it was an unlikely occurrence for two players with over three-and-half times the average to be seated at the same table.
“I was surprised there were so many chips on our table,” said Brikis. “It’s all random so there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s good in the long run, you want chips on your table because that’s how you accumulate more and have one of the bigger stacks in the tournament. I play much better with a big stack so I don’t mind the chips being here. I go after them. I wouldn’t mind playing with Chan tomorrow, but he said he doesn’t want to see me tomorrow.”
Another player near the top of the chip counts is Jim Collopy. Collopy entered the day with a healthy stack, but accumulated massive towers after an opponent seven-bet shoved into his pocket kings .
Collopy opened to 4,000 from late position. A player in the big blind made it 12,700. Collopy made it 29,000. The big blind made it 60,000. Collopy made it 109,000. His opponent shoved all in and Collopy called for his tournament life. About 520,000 was in the pot when Collopy exposed the K K. His opponent tabled the A 3. The ace in the door was scary for Collopy, however, the flop also brought a king. The board read A K Q A after the board paired on the turn. Collopy’s opponent had outs to win but none of them came when the 10 fell on the river. Collopy was at 520,000 after the hand, but ended the day with a bit less than his peak amount.
Other notables who survived the day include Johnny Lodden, Robert Mizrachi, Eric Baldwin, Alexander Kostritsyn, Scott Clements, Shannon Shorr, Jean-Robert Bellande, Cole South, Steve Billirakis, Lauren Kling and reigning WSOP Europe main event champion Barry Shulman.
One of the players who was not fortunate enough to survive the day was 2009 12th-place finisher Billy Kopp. Kopp had a solid chip stack and looked poised for another deep run until a cooler sent him to the rail.
Kopp was in the small blind and three-bet a late-position raise. Kopp’s opponent four-bet and Kopp smooth called. The flop came 8 8 4 and Kopp checked. His opponent checked behind. The turn brought the A and Kopp checked. His opponent bet and Kopp moved all in. His opponent insta-called with the 8 8 for quads. Kopp exposed the A A for aces full. Kopp had just one out and was eliminated when the K fell on the river.
Defending champion Joe Cada didn’t witness a cold deck but had the same fate as Kopp. Cada was all in with the A Q versus the 10 10 of an opponent. Cada failed to win the coin flip and left the Rio with no cashes this summer.
Other notable eliminations on day three include Prahlad Friedman, Vanessa Rousso, Jon Turner, Kenny Tran, Roland de Wolfe, Chad Batista, Erik Seidel, David Williams, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman and Daniel Negreanu.
