Two men appeared in court in Berlin yesterday charged with orchestrating the robbery at the Grand Hyatt Hotel during the European Poker Tour event held there in March this year.
Ibrahim al Moussa, 31, is accused of organizing the four thieves who carried out the attack while Mohammed Abou-Charka, 29, is charged with masterminding the heist.
Four men have already been convicted of the crime which saw them get away with €242,000 of which only €4,000 has been recovered.
The two alleged ringleaders face up to 15 years in prison if convicted and both have declined the opportunity to testify at the trial.
According to Deutsche Presse-Agentur, Abou-Charka briefed the four raiders in a take-away food shop about their roles and gave them the go-ahead by mobile phone. Abou-Charka was named by one of the convicted robbers during the trial in June.
Al Moussa, the alleged ringleader, was playing in the tournament and reportedly watched the raid from the hotel lobby but his defence lawyer said there was no evidence that he was involved in the robbery.
The trial is expected to continue until November.
