Level 19 Update: Seed WinsJul 05, '10 Blinds: 8,000-16,000 with a 2,000 ante Players Remaining: 1 out of 27 Notable Eliminations: Johnny Chan – $100,000 Big Hands: Johnny Chan Eliminated in Third Place ($100,000) After Huck Seed folded the button, Howard Lederer made a raise from the small blind to put the extremely short stacked Johnny Chan all-in. Chan made the call after a few moments of thought and tabled 57 and was up against the J9 of Lederer. The fop was J86 and each player had a piece. Chan had a straight draw and Lederer had top pair. The turn was the A and the 2 fell on the river to eliminate Chan and leave Lederer heads-up with Seed for the title and the $500,000. Seed Doubles Up Howard Lederer raised to 40,000 and Huck Seed called. The flop came 653 and Lederer bet 60,000 after Seed checked. Seed then moved all-in and Lederer made the call. Lederer showed pocket tens and was up against the 96 of Seed. The turn came the 8, giving Seed an added straight draw to go along with his top pair. The 7 came on the river, which filled Seed’s straight and gave him the lead. Seed doubled up to 550,000 and Lederer, who was on the verge of victory, drops to 260,000. Howard Lederer Eliminated in Second Place ($250,000), Huck Seed Wins ($500,000) A few hands after losing the chip lead, Lederer was down to just 138,000 in chips and moved all-in preflop and was called by Seed. Lederer showed Q8 and was slightly behind Seed’s A2. The flop came 766, which didn’t change much for Lederer, still needing an 8 or a queen. The 9 gave Seed a flush draw and Lederer a straight draw, but the A on the river kept Seed in the lead and gave him the title. Lederer will take home $250,000 after being able to taste victory and Seed will take home a cool $500,000 for his efforts. Player Tags: Howard Lederer, Johnny Chan Level 17 Update: Huck Seed is On a Roller CoasterJul 05, '10 Blinds: 500-1,000 with a 1,000 ante Players Remaining: 3 out of 27 Average Chip Count: 270,000 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. The 3 on the river gave the pot to Chan and he doubled up to 360,000 and Seed dropped to 100,000. Seed Fights Back Just a few moments later, Huck Seed and Johnny chan were getting all of Seed’s chips in the middle again preflop. Seed was way ahead again when he held JJ against the 44 of Chan. The board ran out 553J9, giving Seed a full house and he doubled back to 205,000. Lederer Fires With His Big Draw Howard Lederer limped in the small blind and Johnny Chan checked his option in the big blind. The flop came Q107 and Lederer bet 15,000. Chan called and the 7 came on the turn. Lederer fired 42,000 this time and Chan eventually tossed his hand into the muck. Lederer showed his KJ, for an open-ended straight flush draw. One more time.” The board came 955J5 to send the former main event champion home just short of a money jump. King High Works for Chan Howard Lederer raised from button and Johnny Chan called from the small blind. Both players checked the flop of A5A and Chan led for 16,000 on the 9 turn. Lederer called and they saw the 5 river card. Both players checked and Chan showed the KQ and Chan took the pot as Lederer flashed pocket fours that got counter-fitted by the board. Seed Doubles Up Johnny Chan folded on the button and Huck Seed moved all-in for 112,000. Howard Lederer made the call from the big blind and it was off to the races. Seed showed A9 and Lederer held pocket fives. The board came 743KA, giving Seed the ace on the river to take the pot from Lederer and stay alive. Player Tags: Huck Seed, Howard Lederer, Johnny Chan, Joe Hachem Level 15 Update: Lederer Surging, Greenstein GoneJul 04, '10 Blinds: 3,000-6,000 with a 500 ante Players Remaining: 4 out of 27 Average Chip Count: 202,500 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. Howard Lederer – 340,000 Notable Eliminations: Barry Greenstein – $25,000 Big Hands: Lederer Takes a Big One off of Hachem Action folded to Howard Lederer in the small blind and limped in. Joe Hachem checked his option in the big blind and the flop came AQJ. Lederer bet 7,000 and Hachem called. Lederer fired another 16,000 when the 7 fell and was once against called by Hachem. The 4 came on the river and this time Lederer fired a hefty bet of 45,000. Hachem took his time to contemplate his options and eventually came up with a call. Lederer showed him the J5, giving him a flush and knocking Hachem down to 110,000, while he surged to 185,000. Seed Ramps Up the Aggression There haven’t been too many showdowns or hands that have gone past the flop in this level. Huck Seed is a big part of that as he has three-bet Barry Greenstein twice in fifteen minutes as well as moving all-in over the top ofa raise from Johnny chan, and three-betting Joe Hachem’s open once. His aggression has got him up to 115,000. Barry Greenstein Eliminated in Fifth Place ($25,000) Barry Greenstein raised to 15,000 and Howard Lederer called from the big blind. The flop came A82 and all of the chips got into the middle. Greenstein held 34 giving him a straight and flush draw and Lederer showed A10, good for top pair. The turn was the 10, which kept Lederer in the lead and gave him two pair, and the river was the 7. Greenstein missed both of his draws and takes home $25,000 for his efforts. Lederer is now up to 340,000 and is the chip leader. Player Tags: Barry Greenstein, Huck Seed, Howard Lederer, Joe Hachem Level 14 Update: Harman and Negreanu Out the DoorJul 04, '10 Blinds: 2,000-4,000 with a 500 ante Players Remaining: 5 out of 27 Average Chip Count: 162,000 Tournament Leaderboard: 1. Johnny Chan – 234,300 Notable Eliminations: Jennifer Harman – $25,000 Big Hands: Jennifer Harman Eliminated in Seventh Place ($25,000) After being severely short stacked, Jennifer Harman tripled and then doubled up, but was still short on chips. She was all-in again and was in trouble against Barry Greenstein. Harman held A4 and needed an ace against the KK of Greenstein. The J46 gave her a few more outs, but the J and 5 on the turn and river didn’t give her what she needed and Greenstein sent her home. Lederer Doubles Huck Seed raised and Howard Lederer moved all-in for 30,400. Johnny Chan cold-called the all-in and Seed found that scary enough to fold. Lederer showed AA and Chan tabled 1010. The board came 84279 and Lederer’s aces held up to double up to 80,000. Chan is still way out in front of the pack with 235,000. Daniel Negreanu Eliminated in Sixth Place ($25,000) Daniel Negreanu was once the chip leader, but was run over by Johnny Chan throughout the last two levels and dropped under 100,000. We found Negreanu getting all in on a flop of 265 and was called by Joe Hachem. Negreanu tabled AA, but Hachem showed 55, giving him a set of fives. The turn was the 3, giving Negreanu some chop outs, but the 10 on the river kept Hachem’s set in the lead and eliminated the one-time chip leader earlier than he would have liked. Barry Hits the River On the last hand before the dinner break, Barry Greenstein raised to 10,000 and Huck Seed called and they saw a flop of J63. Greenstein bet 14,000 and Seed made it 34,000. Greensstein moved in for 77,000 and Seed called instantly. Seed KJ and was way ahead of Greenstein’s Q6. The 4 came on the turn, but the 6 on the river gave Barry the lead with trip sixes and doubled up to 182,500 and Seed dropped to 91,500. Player Tags: Daniel Negreanu, Howard Lederer, Jennifer Harman Level 10 Update: Players Dropping Like Flies, Down to 10Jul 04, '10 Blinds: 800-1,600 with a 200 ante Players Remaining: 10 out of 27 Average Chip Count: 81,000 Tournament Leaderboard: Notable Eliminations: Mike Matusow Big Hands: The Mouth Is Out We picked up the action on the turn with the board reading KJ105. Mike Matusow was moving all-in and before he could even finish getting the words out of his mouth, Negreanu had already made the call. Negreanu showed KK, good for top set and Matusow showed K3, giving him top pair and zero chance at winning the hand. The 6 on the river was a mere formality and Matusow is on his way out of the tournament area. Negreanu chipped up to 160,000 Jesus Can’t Find a Miracle T.J. Cloutier raised from the cutoff and Chris Ferguson moved all-in on the button. Cloutier called and saw the good shape he was in. Ferguson tabled 8h8d and Cloutier was way out in front with his 1010. The board came AKJ27 and you will notice that none of those cards were the 8 that Ferguson was looking for. Ferguson is eliminated while Cloutier is up to 60,000. Esfandiari Gone The board read 1074Q and Antonio Esfandiari was getting all of his chips in the middle against Johnny Chan. Chan tabled 1010, giving him top set, and Esfandiari was drawing dead with AQ. The river was meaningless and the magician will have to wait for another tournament to play. “I folded sevens, Johnny,” said Jennifer Harman as Esfandiari was parting way with the table. Scotty Nguyen Eliminated The action has really picked up in this level. We saw Scotty Nguyen getting all of his chips in on the river, but mucking to Joe Hachem when Hachem showed trip sixes. Elky Eliminated Daniel Negreanu raised under-the-gun and Bertrand Grospellier movedl all-in. Negreanu made the call and tabled AK and was off to the races when he saw the 22 of Grospellier. The board ran out Q73JK and Negreanu eliminated Grospellier, leaving us with just 11 players. Hellmuth Can’t Hold On Any Longer Phil Hellmuth was down to just two big blinds when and was in the big blind. Action folded to Howard Lederer in the small blind. Lederer raised and Hellmuth called without looking. Lederer showed A9 and Hellmuth want to look at his cards after the board was dealt. Negreanu insisted he just turn his cards over and he turned over the 6 while the dealer peeled off the flop of A93. Hellmuth was going to need help regardless of what his other card was and after the dealer put out the 4 on the turn, Hellmuth revealed his J as his other card and he was officially drawing dead. The players are combining to one ten-handed table and will be on the money bubble after an extended break. Level 10 Update -- Chat Batista Takes the LeadOct 22, '09 Blinds: 1,000-2,000 with a 200 ante Players Left: 106 of 275 Average Chip Count 155,000 Chip Leaders (Unofficial) Chad Batista — 425,000 Card Player Chip Counts Mike Matusow — 210,000 Notable Eliminations: David Peat Level Summary: With the official payouts announced and everyone aware that the winner will take home more than $1.2 million, play seemed to tighten up a bit as the field marched down the homestretch here on day 2. Recent WSOP Europe Main Event champion Barry Shulman had a rough level 9, dropping to as low as 25,000 before bouncing back a bit when he eliminated high stakes regular David “viffer” Peat. Peat moved all in on the short stack from under the gun for his last 4,200 and was called by two unknowns and Shulman in late position. The flop came down 8-6-4 and Shulman made an isolation bet, getting heads-up with the all-in Peat. Peat showed 9-4 and needed help against Shulman’s 6-5. The turn was a 7, giving Shulman the straight but Peat a better straight draw, however the river was an Ace and Peat hit the rail. Shulman suffered the same fate, however, just moments before the end of the evening when his dominated ace fell to PokerStars Caribbean Adventure winner Poorya Nazari. Other notables to bust included Ted Lawson and Howard Lederer. Lederer joined Phil Hellmuth and Kenny Tran as very late entrants into this tournament and all three had a very brief stay. Lederer ran pocket jacks into pocket kings and received no help as he packed up and left the room. Marco Johnson got heads-up with an unknown players on a board reading J-J-7-K-K and was faced with a tough decision for his last 62,000. Johnson took his time as Phil Ivey, Barry Greenstein and Matt Stout looked on and finally made the call. His opponent showed ace high and Johnson scooped the pot with J-9 for the underfull. That pot boosted his stack to nearly 150,000 in chips. Player Tags: Howard Lederer, Barry Shulman, Marco Johnson |
