Schneider called and the big blind mucked. The turn was the Q and seat 5 led out with 6,000. Schneider called again just in time for the ESPN cameras to arrive.

The four players saw a flop of Q 7 3 and the small blind bet 2,400. The original raiser folded and Garrett made it 5,000 to go. The small blind was the only caller and the turn was the 9 . The small blind checked to Garrett who fired out 5,000. The small blind mucked and Garrett was at 44,000.
Shaun Deeb In A Gamblin’ Mood

That hand left him with 39,000.
Shortly after, he was in the big blind and it folded around to Jeff Norman in the small blind, who limped in. Mueller shoved all in and Norman called instantly. Tom Schneider Doubles Up
Tom Schneider found a way to get all of his 136,000 into the middle preflop and was called by Thai Tran. Tran held A Q and was in dire straights against Schneider’s A A .
Tran never picked up anything resembling outs as the board ran out 7 5 8 3 J , and Schneider would double up.
A few hands later, Tom Schneider raised to 12,000 from the cutoff and the small blind made the call. The flop came 10 2 3 and the action was checked to Schneider and he fired 18,000. The small blind called and the turn was the 4 . Action was checked again to Schneider and he bet 40,000. That was enough to chase away the small blind and Schneider took the pot. He was at 400,000.
Dan Harrington Makes a Big Raise, Takes the Pot
After some heavy preflop action that ended up with about 50,000 in the middle, there was a flop taken heads-up between Dan Harrington and Paren Arzoomanian. The flop was Q J 7 and Arzoomanian led out for 20,000. Harrington made a huge raise to 135,000, leaving himself with just 84,000 behind.

J.C. Tran Gets Rolling

A few hands later, the player in seat 2 raised to 10,500 preflop and Tran made the call from the small blind. The flop came down 10 10 5 and both players checked. The turn was the 9 and Tran led out with 11,000. Seat 2 made the call and the river was the 8 . Both players checked again and Tran showed 3 3 and it was good for the pot. He was up to 205,000.
Brian Lemke Eliminated
On a flop of A 9 5 , Brian Lemke shoved all in at his opponent. His opponent, who had less chips than Lemke, called and showed A 5 , good for two pair. Lemke had 2 3 needed a 4 to fill his gutshot straight. Lemke missed and was down to just 50,000 in chips.
Just a few hands later Lemke committed his last 50,000 with A Q and was called by another player who showed K K . Lemke flopped top pair, but never improved as the board ran out Q 5 7 10 2 and another bracelet winner was sent to the rail.
Left In The Deck:
One of the tournament directors has just gotten on the microphone to announce that the spectators that are on the rail, need to move to another area, as hand-for-hand play is going to start soon. With 670 players remaining, 22 players need to be eliminated and then the money bubble will burst.

Blair Hinkle Doubles One Opponent Up, Makes A Profit Anyway
Oliver Klatt moved all in preflop and the action folded to Isidro Martinez. He moved all in having Klatt covered and the action was on Blair Hinkle. He then came over the top for all of his chips, having both men covered. Everyone else mucked and the hands were turned up.
Martinez: Q Q
Hinkle: K K
Klatt: 9 9
Hinkle was in great position to score a double knockout, but the flop came down J 9 4 , giving Klatt a set of nines. The turn was the A and the river was the J , scoring a triple up for Klatt. However, he only had 125,000 total, leaving a small dent in Hinkle’s stack. Hinkle won the side pot against Martinez and after all the chips were counted, Hinkle made a profit out of the deal, his chips around 2 million.
Benyamine Takes A Big Pot
Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 9 3 3 6 and Sarne Lightman fired 150,000 into a pot of over 225,000. David Benyamine took a few seconds to count out his stack, then moved all in for 135,000 more.

Kenny Tran Gets Bluffed
Kenny Tran raised to 23,000 from early position and was three-bet by a player in late position to 100,000. Tran went into the tank for several minutes before making the call.
The flop came J 4 9 and Tran checked to his opponent. His opponent didn’t make any movements and was just staring around the room, until the dealer informed him that Tran had checked and the player decided to go all in. Tran fairly quickly folded and folded pocket queens face up. To his dismay, his opponent turned over A 10 , for just ace-high.
Phillips Knocks Out Mighty Thor
Dennis Phillips and Thor Hansen got all of their chips into the middle preflop and Phillips had the best of it when he turned over A K against Hansen’s K Q .
Hansen said he was good with the ladies, but his mojo was a little low today as the board ran out 7 5 6 7 5 , keeping Phillips’ big slick in the lead and eliminating a tough opponent from the tournament.

Big Hands
Joe Sebok Eliminated
Action folded around to Joe Sebok on the button and he moved all in for about 500,00. Ben Lamb was in the big blind and made the call. Here were their hands.
Sebok: A 9
Lamb: A Q
Sebok was dominated and needed a lot of help. The flop came down J 4 3 and Sebok was down to his last two streets. The turn was the 6 and Sebok could only double up with a nine. The river brought the Q instead, pairing Lamb and Sebok was eliminated from the main event.
Billy Kopp Knocks Out John Martin
Billy Kopp raised to 125,000 from under the gun and John Martin made the call from the hijack after Luis Nargentino called from the hijack. The flop came down A 9 6 and Martin bet 250,000. Kopp made the call and Nargentino mucked. The turn was the K and Martin bet 500,000. Kopp sprung his trap and raised to over 2 million. Martin then shoved for the rest of his stack and Kopp made the call.
Kopp tabled 6 6 for a flopped set while Martin tabled 8 7 for an open-ended straight draw along with a diamond draw. The river was the J and Martin missed everything. He was eliminated and Kopp was over 11 million after the hand.
Ivey Doesn’t Believe In Bach
Phil Ivey raised to 135,000 preflop and Christopher Bach made the call from the big blind. The flop came down 9 3 3 and both players checked. The turn was the 9 and Bach led out with 150,000. The river was the 7 and Bach led out one more time, this time for 360,000.
Ivey made the call and Bach tabled Q 10 for a whole lot of nothing. Ivey then showed A Q and his ace kicker played. He took the pot and was over 7 million.
Schneider Doubles Through Hieu Luu
Hieu Luu raised from the cutoff position and Tom Schneider called from the big blind. The flop came A 6 2 and Schnedier checked and called Luu’s 225,000 bet. On the 8 turn, Schneider led out for 400,000 and was raised all in by Luu.
Schneider called and we got the rest of the analysis from Schneider’s wife who yelled “What do you have baby?”
Schneider replied that he had two pair and that he was up against a flush draw. “What do we need?” yelled Mrs. Schneider. To that question, Schneider replied that she should root for the king of spades. Ironically enough, that was what fell on the river and Schneider doubles up to 3,800,000 and Luu drops to 2,400,000.
Maimone’s Two Pair Is No Good
Joseph Cada raised to 175,000 preflop and was called by Dennis Phillips and Nick Maimone called. The flop fell 3 7 Q and Cada bet 250,000, which was only called by Maimone. The turn was the J and Cada bet 450,000, which was again called by Maimone.
The river was the 10 and Cada bet 900,000. Maimone called and Cada showed Q Q , good for top set. Maimone made a comment about how sick the hand was as he flashed Q J , good for top two pair, and drawing dead the whole way.
Aces Hold For Smith, Doubles Through Bilzerian
On a flop of 3 4 8 , Jordan Smith moved all in and was called by Adam Bilzerian. Bilzerian showed 6 6 and was behind Smith’s A A .
The turn was the K and the river was the 2 , alowing Smith to double up to 2,500,000 and Bilzerian dropped to 1,850,000 in chips.
Lichtenberger Drops One to Shulman
Andrew Lichtenberger raised from the button and was called by Eric Buchman and Jeff Shulman from the blinds. The flop was A 10 2 and after Buchman checked, Shulman bet 200,000 into the preflop raiser. Lichtenberger called and Buchman folded. The turn was the 8 and Shulman fired 250,000, which was called.
The river was the J and both players checked. Shulman turned over QT, good for third pair and Lichtenberger mucked his hand.

Benyamine Takes A Big Pot
Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 9 3 3 6 and Sarne Lightman fired 150,000 into a pot of over 225,000. David Benyamine took a few seconds to count out his stack, then moved all in for 135,000 more.

Sebok: A 9

Just a few hands later Lemke committed his last 50,000 with A Q and was called by another player who showed K K . Lemke flopped top pair, but never improved as the board ran out Q 5 7 10 2 and another bracelet winner was sent to the rail.

Tran fairly quickly folded and folded pocket queens face up. To his dismay, his opponent turned over A 10 , for just ace-high.

Dennis Phillips and Thor Hansen got all of their chips into the middle preflop and Phillips had the best of it when he turned over A K against Hansen’s K Q .

Sebok: A 9
Lamb: A Q

Schneider replied that he had two pair and that he was up against a flush draw. “What do we need?” yelled Mrs. Schneider. To that question, Schneider replied that she should root for the king of spades. Ironically enough, that was what fell on the river and Schneider doubles up to 3,800,000 and Luu drops to 2,400,000.
Maimone’s Two Pair Is No Good

Tran fairly quickly folded and folded pocket queens face up. To his dismay, his opponent turned over A 10 , for just ace-high.
Phillips Knocks Out Mighty Thor
Dennis Phillips and Thor Hansen got all of their chips into the middle preflop and Phillips had the best of it when he turned over A K against Hansen’s K Q .
Hansen said he was good with the ladies, but his mojo was a little low today as the board ran out 7 5 6 7 5 , keeping Phillips’ big slick in the lead and eliminating a tough opponent from the tournament.

Tom Schneider Doubles Through Mark Seif
Aug 25, '08
Tom Schneider was all in preflop holding Q Q against Mark Seif's pocket eights.
The flop ended all hope for an upset when it came Q Q 6 , giving Schneider quad eights. The turn and river were inconsequential and Schneider doubled up to 23,000. Seif was left with a still healthy 264,000.

Minieri Takes One Through the Heart
Dario Minieri was the button and limped into a pot that had four players see the flop come K J 2 . After three checks which included both blinds and the player in the cut-off, Minieri bet 625. The big blind and the cut-off called. The turn brought the K , pairing the board and bringing a flush into play. After two checks, Minieri bet 2200. The big blind folded and cut-off called. The river brought the 10 , putting a four-card flush on board. The cut-off checked and Minieri bet 3900. The cut-off simply called, worried about a full house and showed the nut flush, holding A 10 . Minieri mucked his hand and is down to 8325 in chips.
Shortly afterward, Minieri made back a few of his lost chips through aggressive positional play. He finished the level with just under 14,000 in chips.
The Lame Lame Show
On a flop of 10 6 3 with one player checking to him and three players to act after, Tom Schneider bet 2,000 into a pot of about 4,000. Cory Zeidman, to his left, moved all-in for 12,725 total. Action folded back around to Schneider who went into the tank. After apologizing for the table for taking so long, Schneider asked Zeidman, “What do you want me to do? I’ll do whatever you want.” Zeidman’s face, hidden beneath the bill of his baseball cap, remained motionless. Schneider eventually made the call and turned up 3 3 for bottom set. Zeidman was drawing: showing A J . The turn was the 5 , leaving Schneider with his full-house redraw to win the pot. The river was the 9 though, and Schneider took a big hit, down to 10,000. Zeidman’s lucky turn brings him up to 35,000. "I wanted you to fold," deadpanned Zeidman as he was collecting his chips.
Young cracks aces to double up
On an 8-5-2 flop, Ryan Young bet 2,500 and was raised to 6,000 by his opponent. Young then moved all in and was called. Young held pocket eights for top set, and was way ahead of his opponent's pocket aces. The turn and river were K-7 and Young doubled up to over 33,000 chips.

Hold’em
Neither Turn Nor River Save Jesus
Chris Ferguson raised from under-the-gun to 600, leaving himself a mere 250 chips behind. The button called, as did the small blind, and the three saw a flop. The flop rolled off K 8 2 . The small blind checked, Ferguson put his last sad chips into the pot, the button called and the small blind folded. The two showed their hands:
Ferguson: A 6
Opponent: Q Q
Ferguson would need one of the remaining aces in the deck to stay alive. The turn was the 2 and the river was the 5 though, ending Ferguson’s day prematurely.
Omaha
Ramdin Keeps Rollin’
Victor Ramdin raised it up from the button and, as so often happens in Omaha/8, the big blind called. On a flop of Q Q 10 the big blind bet out and Ramdin quickly met him with a raise. The big blind called and then check-called a bet on the turn (4 ). The river was the J and the action went check-call yet again. Ramdin showed A Q 5 4 for a full house and took down the pot. That hand kept Ramdin climbing, now all the way up to 13,500.
Stud/8b
Now Those Are Some Scary Boards
Cyndy Violette: 6 K 6 6
Opponent: 2 9 J 8
Violette raised on third street with the 6 and her opponent called with the 2 up after having brought in. Violette bet again when she drew a king and her opponent appeared to blank with a nine. The boards only got better from there. On the next two streets, Violette received a pair of sixes while her opponent drew two hearts. On every single street Violette bet, and on every single street she was called. “Boat,” was her simple response when met with the last call, showing (7 )(7 )(8 ). After taking down that pot Violette sits just above average with 7,500.

Show Them What They’re Playing For...
An announcement was just made by the tournament director, and with a field of 803 players starting the tournament, first-prize will be $256,412. This is nearly $100,000 more than last year’s first-place finisher took home, in large part due to the fact that the buy-in has been increased by 50%.
The Table of Death
With a few more than 400 players remaining the tables here in the Amazon Room (and some in the Brasilia Room) have begun to get more saturated with pros. No table is a better example of this than table 28. Sitting there earlier were David Sklansky, David Chiu, and Brian Micon. They were just joined by Victor Ramdin and Mike Matusow, whose chatter has been non-stop since arriving despite having only 2,800 chips.
Omaha
Jacob Busts Another
Alex Jacob raised pre-flop from early position and the only caller was a short-stacked player in the blinds. The flop came J 8 3 , and the short stack check-called a bet from Jacob. Jacob’s opponent was all-in after a 3 on the turn and the players showed:
Jacob: A A 7 6
Opponent: A K 10 9
The river was a harmless 8 and Jacob claimed another scalp. This one helped escalate his chip stack to 8,000.
Stud
Ramdin in Charge
Victor Ramdin: A 6 A 8
David Chiu: 5 8 5 2
David Chiu completed on third street and Victor Ramdin and another player made the call. Ramdin bet fourth street and was raised by Chiu. The third player folded, and Ramdin made the call. Both players open-paired up on fifth street, but Ramdin’s aces were far scarier than Chiu’s fives. Ramdin bet and Chiu called. Action was the same on the last two streets, and after the final call Chiu asked, “Jacks up good?” Ramdin turned over (8h)(6s)(5c). Jacks up were, in fact, no good. This pot propelled Ramdin to the heights of the chip leaders with 11,000. Chiu is not hurting for chips himself, with 7,600.

Micon Outspoken Despite Losing Pot
Bryan Micon: A Q 3
Opponent: 10 K 10
Bryan Micon raised on third street and was called by his opponent, showing a ten. “You and I the whole day!” Micon continued, “At least we keep winning before playing each other.” Micon bet again on fourth street and was called. Then on fifth street, his opponent made a pair of tens and Micon folded to his bet. Micon exclaimed – more matter-of-factly than in any sort of Hellmuthian manner – “I had like the most concealed hand ever, and there wasn’t a single heart out!” As he said this he flipped over (8 )(7 ). His opponent replied in kind by showing his (A)(K). Micon has gotten off to a very strong start and currently has 7,400.
Stud/8b
Habib Doubles Up
Hasan Habib: 8 4 Q
Opponent: A 5 K
A short-stacked Hasan Habib found himself all-in against on third street against an unknown opponent. Habib turned over (A )(3 ) for an ace-high flush draw against his opponent’s (K )(J ) for a pair of kings. Habib spiked a diamond on 6th street and that would be enough to take down the pot. Habib now has 1,300.

Greenstein Starts Anew
Greenstein: 8 7 5 9
Opponent: A 5 2 5
Fresh off of his sixth place finish in the H.O.R.S.E. championship, Barry Greenstein took a seat in $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, hoping to continue his recent success. We joined one of his hands in progress on fifth street, where Barry called a bet from his opponent despite his opponent showing A 5 2 . His opponent paired his five on sixth street, and Greenstein check-called. On seventh street, Greenstein check-called again. His opponent turned up (4 )(3 )(J ) for a wheel, and Greenstein mucked his hand. Despite this temporary setback, Greenstein would end the hand with 5,300.

Flopped It
The player in seat 7 raised in position and David Benyamine called from the small blind and Billy "The Croc" Argyros called from middle the position. The flop came 8 7 5 and both Benyamine and Argyros checked to seat 7, who bet. Benyamine and Argyros made the call. The turn was the J and action was again checked to seat 7. He bet and Benyamine called, but Argyros mucked. The river was the 4 , putting four hearts on the board. Benyamine bet out for the first time and seat 7 tanked. After lots of thought he made the call and Benyamine flipped over A 2 , for the flopped ace-high flush, and raked the pot.
A Full Tilt Collision
Full Tilt's Phil Ivey and Perry Friedman (who still has the Full Tilt logo on the side of his head) got involved in a pot when Ivey raised and Perry re-raised in position. Ivey made the call and the flop came K 8 6 . Ivey checked, Friedman bet out and Ivey made the call. The turn was the 10 and both players checked. Ivey bet out instantly when the 2 hit on the river and Friedman mucked his hand. Still, day one has not been kind to Ivey. He ended it with around 40,000 in chips.
Omaha 8
Set of Jacks for Antonius
When his opponent bet out on the river on a board of K-J-5-8-2, Patrik Antonius raised. His opponent called and Antonius showed J-J-6-4 for a set of jacks to take the pot while his opponent sat shaking his head.
Razz
Schneider Takes One Down
Tom Schneider bet every street until 7th street, where he slowed down and checked. His opponent called all the way and checked with Schneider on the end. Their cards were:
Schneider: 4 8 6 J (A-2-Q)
His opponent: 9 A 6 9 (X-X-X)
Seeing that Schneider made an 8-low, his opponent mucked and Schneider took the pot.
Oppenheim Makes 9-Low For Pot
After some serious betting early, David Oppenheim and his opponent checked sixth and seventh street. Their cards here:
Oppenheim: 6 K 5 9 (9-4-2)
His opponent: 8 8 A 3 (Q-10-2)
Oppenheim's 9-low was good enough to edge out his opponent's 10-low and he raked a sizeable pot.
Good Hands
Surely Bill Chen and the player in seat 7 thought they were going to win the heavily bet pot before them. But when they showed down their best razz hands they saw something surprising:
Chen: 6-5-4-3-2-X-X-X
Seat 7: 6-5-4-3-2-X-X-X
Both players made the six-low and they split the pot.
Stud
Guess I'll Fold
Brandon Adams was showing the A when he bet out. His opponent was showing the Q and made the call. When Adams hit the A for his next card, his opponent shrugged at the early pair of aces in front of Adams and mucked his visible Q 9 .
Stud 8
Hellmuth Elminated by Fitoussi
In a three-way pot with Bruno Fitoussi and Rafi Amit, Phil Hellmuth got all in on fifth street. Their hands were:
Hellmuth: 6 4 9 2 (6-9-x)
Fitoussi: 8 4 K 10 (K Q 10 )
Amit: 5 7 10 5 (x-x-x)
Fitoussi's two pair was better than Hellmuth's and Hellmuth was eliminated late in day one.
Dwan Flushes Hennigan's Two-Pair
Tom Dwan has gotten the better of John Hennigan in a number of pots. In one hand Hennigan was showing two pair, yet couldn't get the better of the young internet-sensation. Their cards were:
Hennigan: 3 3 K K (x-x-x)
Dwan: 4 2 J 9 (A 8 5 )
Dwan hit his ace-high flush and Hennigan angrily mucked his hand.
Leonidas Gets Better of Kostritsyn
Toto Leonidas bet every street during the hand. Isabelle Mercier got out of the way after fourth street but Leonidas was called down by Alexander Kostritsyn. Their showdown revealed:
Leonidas: A 6 5 4 (A-7-6)
Kostritsyn: A J 4 Q (Muck)
Seeing Leonidas' two pair, Kostritsyn slowly mucked his cards and Leonidas took the pot.
