Level 12 Update: Jared Jaffee Takes The Chip LeadOct 17, '10 Blinds: 1,200-2,400 with a 300 ante Players Remaining: 65 out of 335 Chip Counts: 1. Jared Jaffee — 640,000 Average Chip Count: 81,212 Notable Eliminations: Tyler Kenney Big Hands: The Maria Ho Show On the last hand before the break, Maria Ho was all in holding A-Q on a A-J-4 flop, but unfortunately for her, Alex Melnikow had A-4. The turn and river fell K 9 and Ho was eliminated. Or was she? It turns out, she was called back to the room when it was discovered that she still had 300 in chips remaining. Back from break, Ho was all in for the ante and won when her 7-5 outflopped Gavin Smith’s A-10. That got her to 2,700 in chips, which were all in on the next hand when her pocket aces held up against two players ace-rags. After folding a few hands, Ho was all in from under the gun holding K4 against the big blinds K2. The turn gave her the nut flush and all of a sudden she was up past the 23,000 mark. An orbit later, Ho shoved for her last 17,100 from under the gun and was called by Chad Batista in the small blind. Ho’s AJ outflopped Batista’s pocket sixes and she doubled up to nearly 40,000. She still has a lot of work to do, but she’s come a long way from having just one ante. Jimmy Fricke Exits We didn’t see the action, but according to Jimmy Fricke’s twitter page, he wasn’t able to outdraw Vladimir Shchemelev in an all in situation. Apparently Fricke’s pocket queens ran into pocket aces. David Sklansky Doubles Up Barry Greenstein raised to 6,100 from the hijack and Noah Schwartz called on the button. David Sklansky then moved all in for 35,100 in the big blind and Schwartz was the only caller. Schwartz showed AJ, but he was dominated by Sklansky’s AK. The board rolled out 975QK and Sklansky doubled up to 85,000. Schwartz still has 185,000. Poker Tweets: Left In The Deck: Gavin Smith Having Some Fun With Jeff Madsen Gavin Smith is having a lot of fun after doubling up twice in this level at the expense of Jeff Madsen. After Madsen was forced to give up a small pot to another opponent, Smith reached over and knocked down his entire fortress of chips. To add insult to injury, Smith then called the floor over to complain that Madsen wasn’t stacking his chips. The floor reminded Madsen that he needs to keep his chips orderly and the table laughed some more. Aces Are Better Than Kings A player moved all in preflop for 11,875 and Maria Ho made the call. The camera crews rushed to the tables as they turned up their hands: Ho: AA The board ran out 984105 and Ho scored the knockout. She improved to 78,000 after the hand. Moneymaker Close To Starting Stack Again Picking up the action on the turn, the board read J845 and Chris Moneymaker checked. His opponent bet 1,500 and Moneymaker check-raised to 6,500. The opponent called and the 10 fell on the river. Both players checked and the opponent tabled KK. Moneymaker mucked and he was down to 33,000. Seiver Gets No Value From Kind River Picking up the action on the turn, the board read Q327. Scott Seiver checked and his opponent fired 900. Seiver made the call and the 9 fell on the river. Seiver checked and his opponent did the same, much to the chagrin of Seiver as he tabled 99 for a rivered set. Despite not getting much action, Seiver took the pot and he was at 48,000. Mizrachi Drops One Picking up the action on the flop, the board read A92. The player in seat 7 fired a bet and Michael Mizrachi raised it to 8,000. Two other players got out of the way and the action was back on seat 7. He instantly moved all in for 13,000 more and Mizrachi made the call. Mizrachi: KJ Seat 7 flopped top pair but Mizrachi was drawing to the flush. The turn was the 6 and the river was the 3 and Mizrachi could not get there. He dropped the pot and was at 84,000. Level Two: Field Grows Over 200Jun 23, '10 Flop Games: 150-300 blinds Players Remaining: 207 Notable Eliminations: None Big Hands: Stud Schulman Takes A Pot As Floor Is Called Picking up the action on fourth street, the player in seat 4 bet 300 and Nick Schulman made the call, as did Michael Binger. On fifth street, Binger led out with 600 and received two calls. All three players checked on sixth street and it was time to deal the river. This is when things went screwy. The dealer was about to deal Binger’s card face up, but caught himself before he did and dealt it face down. “I saw the card,” Schulman said as he was sitting to the dealer’s immediate right. Binger’s card, the 8, was turned face up while the other two players received their cards face down. They kept them seperate from their other two hole cards as the floor was called over. The floor ruled that since Binger’s was the first card dealt face up, all three would be turned face up. Schulman then bet 600 while showing 52Q2(6X-X). Both opponents folded and Schulman took in the pot. Stud/8 Fricke Scoops Seiver Picking up the action on sixth street, Jimmy Fricke and Scott Seiver each checked their option with their boards showing the following: Fricke: 44AK On seventh street, Fricke bet 600 and Seiver threw in a hesitant call. Fricke then turned over A37 for aces-up and Seiver mucked, surrendering an early pot to Fricke. Baker Chops It Up Picking up the action on sixth street, the player in seat 8 bet 600 and David Baker made the call. On seventh, seat 8 bet another 600 and Baker tagged along again. Seat 8 turned over a 7-5 low for the low end of the pot while Baker showed QQ, good enough to take the high end of the pot. Baker was around 35,000 after the hand. Hold’Em Ramdin Looks Up Fitoussi Picking up the action on the flop of JJ8, Victor Ramdin bet 300 and Bruno Fitoussi made the call. The turn was the 3 and both players checked. The river was the 4 and Fitoussi took a stab at the pot, leading with 600. Ramdin threw in the quick call and Fitoussi nodded his head, showing 109 for a busted straight draw. Ramdin tabled A7 for ace-high and it was good to take down the pot. Boeken Takes One Down Picking up the action on the flop, the board read 1065. Noah Boeken and the player in seat 6 each put in three bets before they saw the 3 on the turn. Boeken continued the betting, firing 600 into the pot. Seat 6 quickly released his hand and Boeken took down a nice pot. Player Tags: Victor Ramdin, Bruno Fitoussi, Noah Boeken, Michael Binger, Nick Schulman, Jimmy Fricke, Scott Seiver |

Level 5 Update: Shannon Shorr BustsMay 29, '10 Blinds: 100-200 Entrants: 3,824 Card Player Chip Counts: Barry Shulman – 4,000 Notable Eliminations: Shannon Shorr Player’s Twitter Accounts: Barry Shulman Big Hands: Bernard Lee Knocks out an Opponent Bernard Lee was dealt the AA in middle position and raised to 550. A player in the big blind called. The flop came 1093x and the small blind moved all in. Lee called and his opponent tabled A-10. The board bricked out and Lee won the pot to increase his stack to 7,000. Slim Knocks Out Opponent, Continues to Grow Stack Catching up with the action on a flop of A43, Amarillo “Slim” Preston checked and called the all in of 1,200 from his opponent. His opponent tabled 94 and was behind the A7 of Preston. The turn was a 2 and the river was the J, which kept Preston in the lead and he grew his stack to just over 11,000. Jimmy Fricke Rolling We caught up with the action on a board of AQ28 with Jimmy Fricke check-calling a 1,000 bet from an opponent. Action went check-check on the 4 river. Fricke’s opponent exposed the A10 but was no good against the AJ. Fricke is now at about 21,000. Benyamine Turns His Short Stack into Monster David Benyamine was the main beneficiary of a three-way all in. Benyamine held pocket kings against the A-K and the Q-3 of his opponents. The board ran out 6 Q Q 6 6, allowing the player with Q-3 to triple up to about 2,000, but Benyamine took the massive side pot, which jolted his stack up to around 15,000. Nichoel Peppe Loses a Pot One of the last women left in last year’s main event just experienced a tough hand. We caught up with the action on the turn on a board of 852 with Peppe check-calling a 1,400 bet from an unknown player. The J fell on the river and Peppe checked once again. Her opponent checked behind and tabled the AJ, which rivered the pocket nines of Peppe. She has 8,000 in chips currently. Shannon Shorr Eliminated Shannon Shorr was eliminated after slow playing pocket aces against an opponent who hit top set with pocket queens on a flop of Q104. Left in the Deck: Confusion in the Small Blind On two separate occasions, a floor was called over to a table after the small blind had a black chip (worth 100) out for their blind and then tossed in a light blue chip (which is worth 500), in an effort to call the big blind which is only 200. Both times a floor was called over and ruled that it was a call because they only threw in one chip and if they did not announce raise when throwing in a single chip, then it is only a call. On a board showing J93KA and with 5,150 in the pot, the player in seat 1 checked to Men Nguyen. He tanked for quite awhile before finally checking his hand. Seat 1 showed KQ for a pair of kings. Nguyen showed AJ for two pair and took the pot. “You checked the river with two pair?” a player who was observing the hand quipped. “He’s a changed man,” John Duthie joked. Nguyen then chimed in with; “Three more Corona’s and then maybe.” He then added, “You wanna teach the Master how to play?” The other player quickly replied, “I’m trying to learn from you.” Everyone laughed and Nguyen was at 31,000. Lunkin Muscled Out Vitaly Lunkin raised to 800 preflop and action folded around to seat 4. He made it 2,500 to go and Lunkin was next to act. The river brought the 3 and seat 1 led out with another 2,500. Chan made a quick call and seat 1 showed 99. Chan could not beat it and mucked his hand. He was down to just 8,200 after losing that pot. It Was That Damn Sasquatch Adrian Gavile and John Kranyak were involved in a hand that resulted in Gavile making quad jacks against Kranyak’s ace-king. As a result, Gavile won the $100 prize package offered by the official sponsor of the 2009 WSOP, Jack Link’s Beef Jerky. The prize package essentially consists of $100 worth of beef jerky. Play was halted for almost five minutes as the floor awaited on the Jack Link’s Sasquatch to arrive and give Gavile his prize. However, the Sasquatch was nowhere to be found and the floor ruled for play to continue. Gavile would just have to wait for the Sasquatch to make his presence known in order to receive his prize. Yang Thrown Off The Boat On a flop of K85, Yang bet 2,700 and his opponent raised to 6,525. Yang made the call and the turn brought the 5 and the opponent fired 8,000. Yang raised to 20,000 and his opponent moved all in for 6,150 more. Yang made the call and tabled KQ for two pair and a flush draw. His opponent showed 88 for a full house and the river was the J, sending the pot to the full house and Yang was down to just 6,600. Fricke Value Bets and Wins a Small Pot With the board reading A48J5, Jimmy Fricke tossed out a bet of 1500 into an already bloated pot on the river. After a few moments of contemplation, his opponents tossed in the call. Fricke quickly turned over the Q8 and his opponent mucked, as Fricke raked the pot with just third pair. Hennigan Mucks to the Nut Flush After a raise and a call preflop, John Hennigan defended his big blind. The flop was 684 and all three players checked. The turn was the 10 and Hennigan checked again. The preflop raiser bet 1700 and there was a call from the cutoff and Hennigan called as well. The river was the 6 and Hennigan checked a third time. The preflop raiser checked and the third player in the hand moved all in for his last 6525. Hennigan took a few moments and then made the call. The cutoff showed the AJ, good for the nut flush and Hennigan mucked his hand. Player Tags: Men Nguyen, John Hennigan, Johnny Chan, Jerry Yang, Jimmy Fricke, Adrian Gavile, Vitaly Lunkin, John Kranyak Level 7 Hour 2 Update: Hoyt Corkins EliminatedJul 07, '09 Blinds: 300-600 with a 75 ante Players Remaining: 3,916 of 6,494 Note: The players have gone on a 90-minute dinner break and will return at 8:10 p.m. Chip Counts: 1. Samer Rahman – 235,000 CardPlayer Chip Counts: Todd Brunson – 41,000 Notable Eliminations: Hoyt Corkins Big Hands: Corkins Gone…Really, He’s Out Just a few hands after Hoyt Corkins doubled up to over 70,000 he was knocked right out of the main event. A player in middle position raised to 1,400 and the cutoff made the call. The button also called and the action was on Corkins in the small blind. He shoved for 60,000 more. The middle position player quickly called, having Corkins covered. The other two players mucked. Corkins then tabled AK and was in deep trouble against the KK of his opponent. The flop came down J1010 and Corkins was actually a favorite to double up. The turn was the 4, dropping those percentages a bit and the J on the river put the final nail in the coffin, sending Corkins out of the main event. Keven Stammen Knocks One Out After a flop of K96, 2009 bracelet winner Keven Stammen was facing a bet from his opponent. He raised all in and was called. Stammen turned over Q10 for a gutshot straight draw along with a backdoor flush draw. His opponent showed K5 for top pair and the lead. The turn changed all that when the J made Stammen’s straight. The river was the K, giving his opponent useless trips and Stammen was over 100,000 with the win. Cajelais Moves Toward The Exit After a flop of A108, Cajelais ended up all in after he got in a raising war with Samer Rahman. Cajelais showed A3 for top pair but Rahman showed AQ for the same hand with a better kicker. The turn was the 6 and the river was the K and Cajelais was out of the main event. Rahman was up to 325,000. King Nothing Jimmy Fricke called his opponent’s all in bet of 11,000. The opponent showed A10 and Fricke tabled KK. If only the hand would have ended there, Fricke could’ve had a knockout under his belt. But the flop fell and brought AAQ, giving the all-in player trips. The turn was the J, giving Fricke a straight draw but eliminating a king as one of his outs. The river was the 9 and Fricke lost the pot. He was at 95,000. The Wrath Of Thor A player raised to 1,700 preflop and the action was on Thor Hansen. He reraised to 5,500 and his opponent came right back over the top to 16,000. Garrett Can’t Call Brad Garrett raised to 1,300 preflop and the blinds came along for the ride. The flop came down 826 and the small blind led out for 3,400. Garrett was the only caller and the K came on the turn. The small blind fired 6,000 and Garrett mucked. The small blind then showed 54 for just a flush draw and Garrett was down to 43,000. We Are Family Kara Scott limped in preflop for 600 and everyone else at her table did the same. This put more than 5,000 in the pot before the flop. It then came down A55. Scott took the initiative and bet out 3,000. The eight other players at the table mucked and Scott took a nice little pot. She was around 80,000. Hansen then moved all in for 36,000 and his opponent made the call. Hansen then revealed AA and his opponent tabled KK. The board offered no help to the cowboys and Hansen doubled up to 77,000.
