CardPlayer.com Enters the 21st Centuryby Barry Shulman | Published: Aug 03, 2001 |

Over a year ago, I made the decision that I wanted CardPlayer.com to be something special. As many of you know, websites for magazines, particularly those of our size, are typically just advertisements (albeit some very grand ones) soliciting subscriptions for their printed product.
I wanted our website to be different. For our readers, the goal was and is to make our website as informative, respected, and important in the Internet media as Card Player is in the print media.
In order to accomplish that goal, several things had to happen. We needed the right combination of hardware, software, and labor, as well as a huge additional amount of accessible content.
Not being an expert myself, I conducted a search to determine the right person or company to hire to set us up properly. Not surprisingly, Internet expertise coupled with poker knowledge doesn't tend to be available for hire from outside organizations, and the few people in the world who have the expertise to do the job are working in very high-paid jobs.
Well, we (you and I) got lucky. I ran into Marshall Ragir. Ragir, who is a well-known higher-limit poker player in the L.A. area, has an Internet business that has designed and run several websites, is a well-known, respected, and very influential businessman, and already was working on establishing a major gaming portal. Unfortunately, he was not for hire. However, as a result of Ragir's appreciation of the Card Player brand, over time we agreed to joint venture CardPlayer.com. And that is the story of how our family-owned niche magazine will be able to have a state-of-the-art world-class website.
Ragir will be writing columns regularly to keep you up to date on our site. We have a state-of-the-art database and search engine that will provide easy access to finding the right information from and about articles, tournaments – past and future – casinos, and general gambling news. Also, we will have fun things such as crossword puzzles and polls.
Oh, if I haven't caught your attention yet, very soon we will be having daily freeroll tournaments that will give away at least $1,000 per day.
Please see Marshall Ragir's article on Page 28 for more information.
