Hustler Casino in Gardena, California, is running a fun promotion through Aug. 11. If you accumulate 30 hours of live-action play in any stud, stud eight-or-better, or mixed game that has stud as one of the games, you will qualify for a freeroll seven-card stud tournament on Aug. 12. The winner of the tournament will play Larry Flynt in a heads-up match for $50,000. The winner of the Flynt match will receive $50,000 and the loser will receive $5,000. I was assured that there will not be any deal-making, because Flynt doesn't make deals. Good luck to the freeroll winner, as I heard that Larry isn't a pushover in seven-card stud.

A few weeks ago, poker players and industry employees gathered for the World Poker Players Conference (WPPC) and the World Poker Industry Conference (WPIC). Throughout the WPPC, players had an opportunity to listen to different seminars from some of the greatest players in the world. I recommend this to anyone who cares about improving his or her game. At the WPIC, there was a seminar on uniform tournament rules. Tournament directors from around the country signed off on 14 rules that will be uniform in the participating cardrooms. For more information on these standardized tournament rules, see Page 95.

It was recently brought to my attention that Phil Hellmuth is now the all-time leading money winner at the World Series of Poker. Good job, Phil! To read about it from Phil's point of view, check out his "Hand of the Week" column on Page 16.

I heard an interesting tournament tip that I would like to share with you: You can't win a tournament if you don't get heads up. This is similar to the notion that you can't win a tournament in the first round.
