A bigger than expected crowd of 397 players showed up at the Grosvenor Victoria Casino, London at the weekend for the first stop of the seventh season of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour.

The €200,000 guarantee for the £1,000 + £70 main event was easily surpassed and given that numbers for the December 2012 Grand Final at the same venue saw a 30 percent decline on the previous year it is a remarkable turnaround for the Tour.

Martin Bader took the title and the £56,000 top prize after overcoming a 6:1 chip deficit against Dave Barraclough. After Bader doubled up the pair did a deal which saw Barraclough take the lion’s share of the remaining prize pool, £62,000.

Bader played aggressively and picked up pots and took eventually took a 4:1 chip lead with 10-2 on a 10-10-3 board against Barraclough’s A-K.

Soon after it was all over with Barraclough moving all in holding K-5 and Bader calling with A-9which held on for the first GUKPT title of the year.
