A 22-year-old poker player from Texas is behind bars in the state of Washington for allegedly robbing a bank after he dusted off everything he had playing poker, according to a report from Seattle-based KomoNews.com.

Ben McClean robbed the Marysville bank on Friday evening, a day after losing $8,000, which apparently was all the money to his name, police said. He allegedly took $7,000 in the armed bank robbery.

McClean was found by police hiding out in a bush in a trailer park around 100 yards away.

According to the report, he told detectives that he emptied out his bank account and flew to Washington because he heard the state had good casinos. “I saw my life wasn’t going anywhere and thought I would take a shot,” the suspect reportedly told detectives.

After losing at the poker tables, McClean said he spent the night on the streets “freezing his ass off” and was getting really hungry. Police said he told them that he figured robbing a bank would be a good idea given his circumstances at the time.

“It was just the mentality of ‘Dude, you just lost everything,’” he told detectives. “You really can’t go any lower so might as well give it a go, and that is exactly why I robbed it.”

As for what went down during the robbery, McClean allegedly told the teller that if she didn’t fill his bag with cash within two minutes he was going to kill her and two others in the bank before turning the gun on himself. McClean told police that the gun wasn’t loaded.

He’s currently in jail while detectives put together their case against him. The report added that he is now a suspect in a bank robbery in the state of Texas.
