The tournament staff at the World Series of Poker $10,000 no-limit hold’em main event made the decision to end day 5 of the tournament early for the second night in a row. There were 407 players when play began at noon PDT, and by the end of the third level for the day (level 20 –- 6,000-12,000 blinds with the average stack at 1,053,051) just 185 remained in action. Leading the way is Warren Zackey, who clocked in at 4,977,000. First and foremost, here is a look at the top 10 chip counts:

2. Kasper Cordes – 4,352,000
3. Darvin Moon – 3,218,000
4. Tom Schneider – 3,168,000
5. Bernhard Perner – 3,022,000
6. Miika Puumalainen – 2,894,000
7. Matt Affleck – 2,882,000
8. Charlie Elias – 2,780,000
9. James Akenhead – 2,692,000
10. Steven Begleiter – 2,630,000
Card Player’s Jeff Shulman is still in the hunt, with 1,266,000.
Other professionals that are still in the mix and have really increased the excitement at this late hour of the main event by still being alive include Phil Ivey, Bertrand Grospellier, Noah Boeken, Eugene Katchalov, Ludovic Lacay, Jordan Morgan, Theo Tran, Blair Hinkle, Joe Sebok, Joe Hachem, Peter Eastgate, Dennis Phillips, David Benyamine, Antonio Esfandiari, Lou Diamond Phillips, J.C. Tran, and Jeff Shulman.
NOTE: A full, official chip count list will be posted later tonight when it is released by the World Series of Poker.
The notable players that have unfortunately exited the field during the short day 5 included David Fox, Nick Schulman, Kevin O’Donnell, Mickey Mills, Markus Gonsalves, Tony Cavezza, Cornel Cimpan, Kyle Bowker, Andy Black, Kara Scott, Dan Harrington, Dan Shak, Jordan Rich, Rolf Slotboom, Nick Binger, Bobby Baldwin, Kevin Saul, Burt Boutin, David Levi, CK Hua, Sorel Mizzi, Thor Hansen, and Vitaly Lunkin. Lunkin cashed in 316th place ($29,911), adding a nice, final punctuation point to an impressive summer that saw him win the $40,000 no-limit hold’em event and finish in fourth place in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. World Championship.

Nicholle Peppe Takes A Massive 2.5 Million Pot Off Lutz

, Tom Lutz bet 300,000 and Nicholle Peppe shoved for 1,099,000. Lutz made the call and the hands were turned over.
Lutz: 10 8
Peppe: 9 7
Lutz gambled with his top pair and open-ended straight draw, but the turn was the 4 and the river was the 2
. Peppe doubled up in the biggest pot of the tournament so far. She was at 2.7 million, while Lutz dropped to a still respectable 1.16 million.
Akenhead’s Kings Give Him the Chip Lead
Eracles Panayiotous raised to 26,000 and was three-bet by James Akenhead to 80,000. Panayiotous made the call and the flop fell Q 7 3. Akenhead bet 130,000 and was called.
The turn was the 8 and Akenhead bet 190,000, which was met with a raise to 430,000 from Panayiotous. Akenhead eventually made the call and the K fell on the river. Akenhead checked and Panayiotous moved all in for about 800,000. Akenhead instantly made the call and tabled the K K, giving him top set and his opponent turned over 6 4, for an absolute air ball.
Akenhead now has over 3,000,000 in chips and is the new chip leader for the tournament.
Action Dan Gets Caught Bluffing, Then Gets Shown The Door
On the turn, with over 400,000 in the pot already, the board read A K 10 K, both Dan Harrington and Charlie Elias checked and watched the 3 fall on the river.
Harrington then bet 350,000 on the river and Elias went into the tank for several minutes. After a while, Elias cut out the call and Harrington acknowledged the fact that Elias made a good call. Harrington tabled 9 8 and Elias turned up Q Q.
A few hands later, the flop was K 9 2 and Eric Cloutier fired 180,000. Harrington moved in for 345,000 and the call was made. Cloutier held A K, while Harrington was drawing live with A Q. The turn was the 3 and the river was the 7, and Harrington could not make his flush, resulting in his elimination. He exited the Amazon Room to a standing ovation.
Tom Lutz Gets Involved In Another Monster Pot, Gets Busted
Tom Lutz got involved in the biggest pot of the tournament during the last level, totaling 2.5 million. He just broke that record on his bustout hand.
After a flop of 9 6 3, Tom Lutz and Warren Zackey got in a raising war that ended up with Lutz being all in for 1.85 million. Zackey had Lutz covered and tabled 10 10. Lutz was drawing with two overcards, A Q.
The turn was the 8 and the river was the 5, missing Lutz and giving the massive 3.7 million pot to Zackey. Lutz was out and Zackey was at 4.15 million.
Zackey Continuing Hot Run of Cards
With 300,000 already found in the pot on a flop of Q Q 3, Warren Zackey bet 175,00 and Kyle Wilson, also known as “Krisqueen” online, moved all in for his remaining 775,000. Zackey made the call.
Wilson showed J J and was behind the Q 10 that Zackey held. The turn was the 7 and the river was the K, giving Zackey the pot and increasing his stack to 4,700,000.
Nick Schulman Busts
Marc Etienne McLaughlin raised to 28,000 from the cutoff and Nick Schulman repopped to 96,000 from the button. McLaughlin put Schulman all in and the call was made. McLaughlin showed A K while Schulman showed AQ .
The board ran out 8 4 2 K 10 and Schulman was eliminated.
