Below is a classified ad. Are you the person it seeks?

Our industry is looking for individuals, male or female. In fact, females are encouraged to apply, as special meetings are designed with them in mind. This is a fun industry in which you'll get to interact with many, many people. These people will have varied interests and backgrounds, and we seek those who make friends easily. We also ask that you bring along with you to our industry as many of your friends as you'd like, to make you feel comfortable. You must meet the minimum age requirement by law to enter our industry. Other than that, you may be of any age (young, midlife, retired, and beyond). In fact, senior citizens are encouraged to apply. You must have the ability and desire to learn all that you can. Skills required for our industry can be learned, and will be taught from the day you start. No previous skills are necessary. Skills are acquired and improved via books, videos, and actual practice. There are no physical requirements for taking part in our industry. Rocket scientists may participate, but their IQs are not necessary for participation. The physically challenged individual is encouraged to excel in our industry. You must be able to get to our industry locations; however, if you cannot, you will be able to participate at home on a computer. At this time and in the future, all shifts are available; we are open 24 hours. Does this sound like an industry fit for you? If so, "come and join us."

This sounds like the dream job we've all been seeking. Well, I hope that you aren't out of a job, and I wouldn't suggest that you take this job if you're inexperienced. If that's the case, I suggest you look at it as a hobby.

Wouldn't it be nice if you were able to find a classified ad like this when you were out of work or wanted a second job? This industry, of course, is poker, and everything written above truly applies.

You may think you're too old to get started in poker. Think again. John Bonetti, a world-class player, didn't enter tournament play until he was in his 50s. He has since won three World Series of Poker bracelets. He is a testament to the fact that you can enter this game at any age and not only excel, but reach the top of the mountain.

During the year at various major tournaments held at different locations, Oklahoma Johnny Hale runs a "seniors" event, which you can't enter if you're not 50 years of age.

You may think you're too young to get started in poker. Think again. Phil Hellmuth is an example of this other extreme. In 1989, Phil became the youngest player ever to win the World Series of Poker championship. He has since acquired seven bracelets and has become the all-time leading money winner at the WSOP.

If you're a woman, you may think poker's a man's game and you can't compete against the boys. Think again. In 1995, Barbara Enright (Max Shapiro's sweetie) was the first woman to get to the final table of the WSOP championship event. She won more than $100,000 that day and has gone on to be a very successful player, including capturing the best all-around player award at the 2000 Legends of Poker tournament at The Bicycle Casino. In all, women have more than 60 in-the-money finishes in the WSOP championship event.

There is also a special event for women only at the WSOP, and there are ladies events held throughout the year at various venues. They are a great way for women to get involved in the game of poker.

Our great game also doesn't discriminate against the physically challenged. Ramps and elevators are in place at every venue I attend, and I see many a physically challenged player enjoying the game of poker in casinos throughout the country. At last year's Orleans Open, there was a great player who didn't have the use of his hands. However, his wife sat with him and showed him his cards, and he told her to bet, check, or fold, and so on. He was totally involved and ended up at the final table of the event.

I'm no rocket scientist myself, but I have used many years of experience to hone my game. While growing up, I never played hold'em or Omaha, so I used books to learn the ins and outs of these games. Now, most people who know me will tell you that I'm probably not the sharpest card in the deck, but if I can learn, so can you. If you have an interest in poker and are trying to find your way into the casino, answer the above classified ad and come and join us!diamonds
